Tender Crow

On Sunday, I woke up feeling sluggish. I rolled out of bed and went to the kitchen for some water. I checked the time on the stove and noticed it was past noon. I heard Benjamin meow and I groaned.
"I'm sorry, Ben..."

After I fed him, I slipped back into bed, completely under the covers. I heard my phone chime from a new message, but I ignored it. Once it 'dinged' for the third time, I palmed for my phone and snatched off of the nightstand. The texts were from Dexter:

Him: Hey

Him: Are you busy? I need to talk to you.

Him: In person

I didn't want to see him. I felt too ashamed to face him...but, maybe it was for the best.

Me: Ok

Him: I'll be there in 10

I kicked the blanket off of me and went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I threw on a shirt and kept on my pajama pants and went to sit on the couch.

Minutes later, there was a knock at the door and I went to answer it.
"Hey." I greeted him.
"Hi." He walked in. He was casually dressed in a tan long sleeve shirt and black pants.
We sat on the couch and faced each other.

"So..." He started, "I just wanted to apologize for yelling and walking away. I know that your really sensitive towards this kind of stuff and you can be a bit...paranoid—but, I want you know that you can talk to me. If something's on your mind, just tell me."

I nodded and sighed.
"I'm sorry for not telling you how I feel. It's just—" I stuttered, "Whenever I feel intense emotion i just freak out—I've always been that way. When it comes from you, I freak out even more and I start to make assumptions, then I get embarrassed by my assumptions, then I run away."
"...yeah, that sounds about right." He nodded his head.

"I know I've gotta do better at dealing with my emotions and I will tell you what's on my mind." I finished.
"Good. Now, was that so hard?"
"Not really." I chuckled.
"See? Not everything has to be so dramatic."

He laid back and put his feet in my lap. I poked his big toe with my finger and he moved his foot away.
"Hey, don't do that." He said in a stern tone. I smiled and started fidgeting with my hands...

"Lay with me." He offered his hand.
"Wait, what?" I asked, feeling my heart skip a beat.
He grabbed my arm and pulled me down with him and we laid together, arm in arm.
"...is this too much for you?" He whispered.
"N-no...it just surprised me."
"Everything surprises you."

He ran his fingers through my hair and I shuddered. He's so warm... I cuddled into his chest and closed my eyes. He put an arm around me and kissed the top of my head. I felt so safe in his arms...I didn't know how to describe the feeling.
"I like this..." I softly said.
"Me too."
