Chapter 5

Austin's P.O.V.

I haven't seen Nicole since 5th hour. I walked up to Callie and asked her if she's seen Nicole by any chance. She shook her head no so I went to Nicole's locker.

She had mascara running down her cheeks. "W - what's wrong?" I said putting a hand on her shoulder. She just shook her head then rubbed her eyes. I pulled her into a big hug and tightened my grip. "Are you leaving school?" I asked her. She nodded her head still buried in my shoulder.

After awhile she released and forced a smile towards me. I ran beside her and walked her down the hallway. When I walked past Alex he winked ant me and mouth 'good job man'. I shook it off and kept worrying about Nicole.

Her mom was in the office and the minute bell just rang. "Thanks," she said looking up at me. "No problem, text me if you need anything," I said giving her ant quick hug then went to class.

Nicole's P.O.V.

Austin was sweet. I'm glad I had a 'friend' like him. When I went up to my mom she gave me a little 'who's that look' but I didn't say anything. "He's cute you know," my mom said looking over at me. I nodded and played with my fingers. "Look honey, I know grandma past away but at least she didn't have to be in pain anymore," she said keeping her eyes on the road.

"Yeah I know," I said short and choppy. When we got home I had to pack my bag because we were going to Minneapolis for the funeral and it was gonna be a what long flight.

Austin's P.O.V.

I caught up with Callie and asked I'd she knew about what happened with Nicole. She nodded and told me that her grandmother had just past away. My heart sank down to my stomach when she told me.

Right after I got home from basketball practice I pulled out my phone and texted her. I didn't get a reply until a day later saying she wouldn't be back for awhile.

I was sad she wasn't coming back because there was a dance and I wanted to go with her. I tried not to think about it but I couldn't help it.
