Dilan's POV
It was finally Monday and as I woke up, I dreaded going to high school. It was not normal that I was freaking out about going to school and yet I had vampires after me. Still, high school wasn't one of my favorite places so obviously I would hate going there. High school was just hell on Earth with students for demons. On Wednesday, I would turn eighteen and the first vampire to drink my blood and kill me will turn into a day walking vampire. That meant if everything turned to the worst, I only had three days in school, two knowing that vampires wouldn't let me celebrate my birthday party.
I got off my bed and walked to the curtains which I drew making sunlight stream into the room. The light blinded me a little before I got used to it. In my mind, I couldn't help but think of how the sun was protecting me. People took for granted the sun and nature not knowing how much they protect us from many things including vampires.
Vampires. That term had become quite common in the last few days that it freaked me out. During the previous night, the werewolves complained of how the whole town was filled with vampire scent. It seemed our town had become a tourist attraction for vampires who were the worst tourists ever. But not all vampires were here for my blood. I remembered the only vampires that Cleopatra ever sired. Kairu was always talking and joking. He didn't seem to shut up but it was a good thing as I learnt more about vampires from him than from anyone. He was also nice and I realised that we had sort of become friends. It was weird as I had never thought that I would befriend a vampire except Cleopatra but Kairu had made me change my mind. He was also the most human vampire I knew which I guess was a reason we became friends. He was also a sort of vampire nerd as he knew too much about almost everything. He told me that the best way to enjoy immortality was to keep his mind occupied which made sense. Also, his African accent was actually interesting to hear.
Victoria was Kairu's soulmate and she was the exact opposite of him. She was quiet and always seemed to be thinking about everything, as if she didn't trust anyone. Kairu had promised me to tell me his story before he left the previous day and I couldn't wait. Their story seemed interesting as they were from different worlds.
But nobody had welcomed the two with friendly faces. Rose was at the house when we were returning back into the house and she attacked the two without even asking questions. The werewolves didn't have to wait for an order as they rushed to help Rose. Cleopatra had to quickly come between the two sides and explained who they were but Victoria and Rose had a fight which wasn't pretty. Both were very strong and fast even though Victoria was faster. It was my first time seeing a vampire clearly in action as the other times, it never used to be in daylight.
Even after explaining who they were, nobody trusted them and kept glaring at the two though Victoria's glare was much worse. Kairu seemed not to mind as he kept telling me stories. My aunt and Claire were trying to get used to sharing their home with werewolves and worse, vampires but Kairu said he wouldn't stay in the house at night. Victoria followed her soulmate out when sunset reached and they disappeared.
Cleopatra remained in the house. I could see she was bothered with everyone being upset about Kairu and Victoria. I also was upset because two more day walking vampires was so much help for us but werewolves were not that trusting and Rose was worse. Rose had also told us that her whole family had returned to the town meaning more hunters. However, the hunters were not pleased and didn't seem to take a side. Only Rose was on our side and her reasons were unknown.
I took a cold shower so that I could cool my body. After preparing myself, I walked down the stairs to the dining room. The werewolves were as usual having a feast. Rose was eating fruits as she glared at Cleopatra who was seated at the table doing nothing. When I reached the table, Cleopatra looked at me with a soft expression. It had been an hour since she had left me alone in bed to go and feed and as usual she looked amazing. Claire was already prepared and Kelvin was beside her.
