Derrick's POV
'Well, if I'm gonna die. I'm gonna die fighting.' I thought as I took out and opened a butterfly knife that Jade, Jake's mother, gave me. "Bring it!" I snarled. Adrian hissed. He and his crew ran forward. 'Let my ancestors be with me,' I prayed as I started fighting.
Jake's POV
I was hot on Derrick's trail. 'Please don't be dead,' I prayed in my head as I ran. "Quickly, Sparkjumper." I heard my dad urge on. I picked up the pace till I got to the border between The Lunar Moon Gang, LMG, and The Blood Claws Clan, BCC. I lowered my head to the ground taking in every scent there was. "Grass, tiger, dirt. Derrick!" At the same moment, as I picked up my mate's scent, there was la oud scream of pain. "No!" I screamed bolting across the border following the sound of struggle. Turning into an ally, I skidded to a halt as I saw Derrick on the ground.
I leaped over the crowd of cats that I assume had jumped him. Landing in the center of it all, I stood over Derrick who was severely wounded. I lifted his head and looked into his faded blue eyes. "No no no, Derrick. Derrick, baby answer me. Please," I begged. My eyes returned to their unnatural hazel and my fur started smoking. "Who did this to him," I asked keeping my voice steady. I wasn't given an answer. Instead, I was met with a leopard trying to drive a switchblade into the back of my neck. I turned and grabbed his wrist.
I laid Derrick's head gently back to the ground before I stood up and looked at the leopard. My eyes turned to flames. Looking over the petrified leopard, I saw a D on his chest. My fur smoking much more the before as I realized who he was. "Adrian," I growled. He swallowed and said "Jake." "No," I responded, "It's Sparkjumper." I gave a sharp-toothed grin as very strand of fur on my body burst into flames. The switchblade melted from Adrian's hand. I threw him against a wall while his followers started to attack. First, was a panther. He was strong and fast, but not fast enough. He went into for a right Jab, but I grabbed his wrist, turned, pulled forward, broke his arm, and landed an elbow to his temple. Knocking him cleanout. Next, up were a pair of calico twins. They were in perfect sync, which was both a mistake and an advantage. It was easy for me to dodge every attack from them, but it was hard picking an open moment.
Then I heard someone say "Double snake reverse." My dad. He was with me helping me. I did a backflip getting some distance from the twins, and summoned identical flame snakes launching them at the calicos. Each snake wrapped around the necks of a twin. While they struggled with the snakes, I was able to do a flying reverse roadhouse kick knocking the twins unconscious and the snakes disappeared. The rest of the surrounding furballs soon noticed that they didn't have a chance. Some took their chances and ran leaving a good 25 left to fight. The remaining decided to all attack at once. I was trapped in a circle of pissed off cats. Then I remembered my training.
Flashback 10years ago
"I can't do it, dad. It's too hard. I'll never get it," I pouted as I sat in the grass. My dad picked my head up so I was looking into his loving eyes. "Don't say that Sparkjumper. You'll get it I promise. Try again," he smiled. "Ok, I guess," I stood and got into my stance. "Remember. Keep calm and don't panic," he cooed. I took a deep breath and relaxed my nerves and made my body catch a flame. I did a finisher called fire rain. Fireballs started falling down to the ground. With a bright smile on my face, I turned back to normal and turned to my father standing behind me.
"I did it! I did it! Did you see me!" I cheered. With a soft chuckle, he shook his head in a playful way. "Yes, I did see you Sparkjumper. You did really good. I told you that you can do it," he kneeled and ruffled my head fur.
End of flashback
'Keep calm. Don't panic. The blue wave attack,' I thought as I calmed down and opened my eyes. "Time to finish this," I snarled as the blood-red flames on my hands turned into ocean blue flames. I made the flames grow then thrust both of my fists into the ground. A huge wave of blue flame rippled along the ground sending the surrounding felines up in flames or flying into the surrounding brick walls. When I stood not a single cat was left standing. I heard grunting as I looked over and saw Adrian picking himself up a gun in hand. I was quick to grab his throat and him the arm with the gun to the wall. "This is the last time you hurt Derrick pussycat," I growled. He smirked and blew a taunting kiss at me. I didn't hesitate to send waves of extreme heat into his chest melting his heart.
When I dropped the lifeless leopard there was a small, frail voice that called out my name. I turned to see Derrick sitting up against a wall. "Derrick, I gasped and ran to him. His once snow-white fur was now strained in his own crimson red blood. I collapsed to my knees over him as I gently touched his face. My hands were shaking terribly. "Jake, you came for me," he whispered. "Of course I did baby. You're my life, my fiance, my mate," I whined seeing the pain in his eyes. He was suffering badly. He gave a weak smile before he coughed up blood and groaned as he grabbed his stomach. I looked down and my heart shattered. The same knife my mother gave him was buried deep in his stomach. "No no no Derrick," I whimpered. "I'm fine I'm fine. Just so tired," his voice was so quiet it was hard to hear. I place my hand on the knife and with one swift motion pulled it free.
I was quick to place my hand on the wound and heal it. There was still a pink scar remaining. "There. Derrick, you are gonna be ok. Ok? I promise. Ok, I promise," I was in tears. My fur and eyes had since turned back to normal. Derrick gave a smile that said it all. "Don't cry, babe. Let's go home." He laid a single, shaky, weak, bloody paw on my cheek. I nodded. "Ok. I'll take you home," I sniffled as I picked him up. He groaned in pain a bit as I started carrying him back home. I kissed his nose before I took off running careful not to hurt him. I made it home within 10 minutes. Derrick was sleeping in my arms as I walked through the door. I carried my injured mate upstairs to the bathroom. I ran a hot bath and put him in it. I softly sang unforgettable by Thomas Rhett as I cleaned the blood from his fur returning it back to its beautiful, clean white. After drying him off, I wrapped his wounds, putting him in one of my too-big shirts, laid him in bed and covered him up. I was too restless to sleep, so I just paced at the edge of the bed.
The only sound in the entire room was Derrick's labored breathing and his heartbreaking coughs that would happen every 30 minutes. 'This was all my fault. If I wasn't such an asshole this wouldn't have happened.' I thought as I placed my hand on Derrick's chest to help him recover from one of his coughing fists. "I'm so sorry Derrick. I did this to you. This was my fault," I whined. I'm a terrible boyfriend.
