I approached Ms. Evans's classroom, and she smiled at me, "Afternoon, Ms. Blake."
"Afternoon, Ms. Evans," I replied before walking in and sitting down.
After going over the assignment from yesterday, she moved onto the next section for the class. I hadn't realized time flew by, and everyone was packing up their things. As the bell rang, I sat at my desk, finishing the packet that we got today.
"All done?" Ms. Evans asked as I nodded. "Great, I can check your answers," she smiled.
I walked up to her desk and handed her the assignment. She pulled up the answer key and looked through my work.
"Nice job, Jackie," she said. "Would you mind looking back at number three."
I took the paper and looked at it, "Did I make it more confusing?"
She chuckled, "What is your calculator set in?"
"Degrees," I said, pulling it out and looking at the program.
"Read the directions."
I looked at it again. "Oh."
She chuckled, "There it is."
"I see what I did," I said, fixing my answer and showing it to her.
"There you go."
"Thank you," I said, "Oh, here's your pencil."
"Thanks." Charlotte took the utensil from me. "Are you doing anything after school?"
"No. I'm free."
"Well, would you like to go to the coffee shop near the town? I think it's called Boston Barista," she spoke.
"Sure." I didn't know where the place was located for a second, but I realized that's the coffee shop Chelsea works at. I've always called it "Chelsea's coffee shop," never realizing the actual name.
After the bell rang, we waited fifteen minutes as I helped her pack up the assignments. We walked to our cars separately and drove over to the shop.
When we got in, Chelsea greeted me, "Hey, what would you like?"
I looked at Charlotte, "It's on me," I said.
"No," she disagreed, pulling out her card.
"Seriously, what would you like?"
"I'll take an espresso," Charlotte said.
"I'll take an iced coffee," I said and handed Chelsea my card. That's when Charlotte looked at me. "What? I told you I got it," I smiled.
"Here you go," Chelsea said, handing me my card and the receipt.
"Thank you."
We walked over to a table and sat down, "I've only been here once," Charlotte said as she placed her purse next to her.
"This is my usual coffee shop," I smiled. "The owner originally opened the shop in Boston and because it did very well, she wanted to open it in other states too. Sadly, I never met the owner herself. The woman always traveled around the country, finding ways to start a new business."
"Ahh, so how'd you meet Chelsea then?" Charlotte asked as Chelsea approached us.
"When it was my first day working here," Chelsea said, "Here is your espresso, and here is your iced coffee."
