I woke to the sounds of beeping machines. I'm feeling groggy, and my eyes slowly opened as I tried to scan the room. The walls were white. There were counters and cabinets in the corner. I noticed an IV catheter in my left arm as fluids were running through it.
I groaned as my head lightly throbbed. What the heck happened last night? Taking a better look around the room, I realized people were in here. Amber, Cindy, Noah, Jackie, and Jess. The sun was shining, and it was too bright for my liking.
Shifting around in the bed, I accidentally caused Jackie to stir in her sleep. "Char?" I heard and turned my head towards the voice. Jackie had the relief feeling washed over her face. "Thank god you're okay," she sighed.
We heard a door open and looked over at a male doctor walking in with a nurse next to him. "Hey, Charlotte," he said, then looked around and scrunched his face. "Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb the others," he whispered.
"No, it's fine," Jackie sighed.
He apologetically looked around the room, "Well, I'm Dr. Andrew Lane," he said.
I began coughing, and Jackie rubbed my back. She handed me a glass of water as I took small sips, "What happened?" I asked after clearing my voice.
"You blacked out last night. Luckily your fiancée was with you, and she called the ambulance," Dr. Lane said. My fiancée? "Since you are awake, we would like your consent to draw blood and run a test. If it's not too much to ask, we would like a urine test as well. You showed signs of being verbally unresponsive after drinking a glass of soda. We want to make sure there's nothing that's affecting your system."
I nodded, "Okay."
The nurse came over to the catheter and began unscrewing the fluid and replaced it with a syringe, "You're going to feel a bit of a pull on your arm," she said as I felt the motion of blood flowing into the item. When she took the amount needed, she quickly replaced it with the fluids, and I sighed.
After the other tests, I was back in bed and resting. My head continued throbbing after waking up. Dr. Lane said he wanted to keep me here until twenty-four hours pass by, at the least. Something about making sure that whatever was in my system is completely gone.
"Some officers from last night said that they're going to come and ask you a few questions," the nurse said as she got me more fluids.
"Thank you, Nurse Olivia," I smiled.
After she left, I turned to everyone as their eyes were all on me, "How are you feeling?" Jess asked.
"Better?" I questioned, "Kind of?"
"That's good. We're glad you're safe," Cindy said.
I nodded as we heard a knock at the door. I turned my head, and the door slowly opened.
"Hi, is this the room of Charlotte Evans?" an officer asked as two walked inside.
"Yes," I said.
"Hi, Ms. Evans. I'm Officer Tran, and this is Officer Morgan," he said. "Do you mind if we ask a couple of questions? They won't be long,"
"Sure."
"Can you give me a brief explanation of last night? Around 7:00 PM?" Officer Tran asked.
"I went out for drinks with my friends at the bar, Illusions."
"Can you identify the people that you were talking with?" Officer Morgan asked.
"My friends: Madison, Tiffany, and Jess. The bartender Sabrina, who was covering a sick coworker last night. Then my coworker, Carmen," I said, with a few thoughts of hesitation.
