|| Tuesday, March 24th ||

Almost two weeks passed. Charlotte and I have called Emily every other day while my mom was down there. Emily does sound a lot better. Her bruises and cuts are healing well and nearly gone. She returned to the house after spending three nights at Avery's home. Not much has changed since she left, and they all helped her clean the mess. Ethan isn't going to get out anytime soon, but the divorce papers weren't signed. Emily said she was going to discuss everything with her lawyer in a few days.

Charlotte is still a little upset that she wasn't able to go. But, she and I decided that we're going to fly down there over our Spring Break. She'll be ready to visit Emily, and we can also check out the college before going back. Hearing that Emily is doing better physically has lifted some of the weight off of our shoulders, but mentally, she's still hurt. Emily mentioned over the phone last night that she might see a therapist and talk about everything. We thought it would be a good idea.

I'm currently sitting at Chelsea's shop, finishing my study guide for my physics exam tomorrow. My teacher decided to make our exams based on old A.P. tests, which sucks, but he said it was the best way to prepare his class for the real exam in a little over a month.

When I finished answering all the questions, I groaned when some of the calculations were incorrect from the formulas. I decided to take a rest. I've been sitting here since I left in the middle of my off-campus period. I stared out the window as I watched cars and people pass by. Hearing my phone vibrate, I got a text from Charlotte.

Charlotte: Hey babe. When are you coming home?

Me: I'll be home in half-an-hour.

Charlotte: Okay.

When I placed my phone away, I decided to wash my face in the restroom. The day was still bright, so that was still a good thing. I looked in the mirror and saw a small amount of exhaustion. I took a deep breath before exiting the restroom. As I walked back to the table, someone accidentally bumped into me. I felt the hot coffee running down my leather jacket and dripping on my blue jeans.

For some reason, I looked down at the mess made in the middle of the coffee shop, and I smiled. I took a second to laugh before looking up to see a horrified look on Ms. Campbell's face.

"Oh, god, Jackie. I am so sorry," she apologized.

Chelsea was next to me and handed me a rag as I patted my jacket. She took the mop, and we stepped aside as she cleaned the floor.

I hand Chelsea the rag back, "You know, Chelsea, I have no luck with your coffee shop."

"Oh, stop it. It's only been a few times out of the million days you've stepped through that door. I was the first."

I looked back at Ms. Campbell, and she was still looking very guilty and shocked at what happened. "Grace, it's okay."

She seemed hesitant for a second, "Umm, I'll help you clean the stain."

We walked into the restroom, and Grace grabbed a few paper towels and damped them. She helped me clean my jacket as I tried to get as much coffee off my pants. Luckily the blue was dark, so the stain wasn't as visible. They instead look like damped areas more than coffee.

We both looked down at my white shoes that were no longer white. We stared at my shoes in silence for a few minutes before we burst out laughing.

"I'm curious if this is karma from that one time when I hit your hand away in class, then bumped into you after school and spilled all your items on the ground."
