CHAPTER EIGHT

"I never thought I'd say it but in the right angle with the right amount of sunlight you're kind of beautiful." joked Blaise, she pushed his arm and giggled.

"You're not so bad yourself, Zabini." she smirked looking at him from head to toe. They were both dressed up in formal clothing. Liz wore silver dress that reached the floor. It had a v-neck that showed her curves in a delicate way. She wore high heels that fitted perfectly with the dress. Her dark brown hair was pin straight and she had applied the slightest bit of makeup, finishing it off with a dark red lipstick.

Blaise on the other hand wore an expensive black suit that made him look quite the handsome guy. He wore a dark red tie that matched the colour of Liz her lips. The shared a smiling look and headed for the Christmas party, Liz' arm was tugged into his.

But at the end of the corridor they bumped into a certain blond who couldn't seem to take his eyes off of the stunning brunette.

"Draco.. you're going to the party as well?" Blaise asked in surprise. Draco raised an eyebrow and chuckled saying "That stupid party? No way, I'm glad I'm not going. I've got better things to do." and with that he left again, forcing his eyes away from Liz. Liz gulped down some saliva and took a shaky breath.

"You ok?" Blaise asked, concern laced in his low voice. She looked up at him and smiled but Blaise could see she was hurting. "I'm fine, let's just go."

The Slytherin brunette chucked another drink down to calm her nerves, for some reason she felt extremely uneasy. Maybe it was seeing Draco that killed her mood entirely. Blaise bumped his shoulder against her saying "Easy on the beverages, tiger."

"I'm seriously rethinking this whole party right now, remind me why I went?" she asked before sipping from another drink. Before Blaise could answer a photographer ordered to take a picture from the two. Blaise wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her closely. He showed a white toothy smile whilst she curled her red lips in a faint smile, her dimples showing. The flash nearly blinded them until a familiar voice caught their attention.

"Take your hands off me, you filthy squib!" Draco groaned in the hands of an unamused Filch. Filch dragged the boy inside and everyone's eyes burned on them.

"Professor Slughorn, sir. I just discovered this boy lurking in an upstairs corridor. He claims to have been invited to your party."

"Okay, okay, I was gatecrashing, happy?" Draco said which confused Liz, he just told them how he despised the party, why'd he crash the party then? Unless it had to do with his assignment.

"I'll escort him out." Snape spoke, grabbing ahold of Draco's collar. Liz stood there, unsure of what to think, her lips slightly parted. Draco's eyes narrowed before he said "Certainly, Professor."

As expected her eyes met his and it made her shiver. She watched them leave and went with her gut. She excused herself and walked into the corridors. She nearly jumped when she heard them talking. She hid behind the wall and listened in on the conversation.

"I swore to protect you, I made the unbreakable vow." Snape hissed.

"I don't need your protection, I was chosen for this. Out of everyone, all the others, me and I won't fail him." Draco scoffed.

"You're afraid, Draco. You attempt to conceal it but it's obvious. Let me assist you."

"No, I was chosen, this is my moment."

Silent tears rolled down Liz her eyes, hearing him talk exactly to others as he did to hear was heartbreaking. She had believed Draco wouldn't have chosen for it by himself but now she was starting to rethink that thought. Maybe Draco really wanted to be on his side.

She wiped the tears from her cheeks and walked away, not wanting to hear anything more. Her heels clicked on the floor until someone called for her name in a hushed tone. She halted in her tracks and turned around only to find Potter looking at her.

"Elizabeth?" he said, nervously scratching the back of his neck. Liz wiped the remaining tears back and straightened her posture. She furrowed her eyebrows saying "What do you want?"

"Is everything alright?" he asked ever so kindly, he must've seen the tears. She narrowed her eyes in suspicion. Since when did the chosen one care about a Slytherin, Draco's former girlfriend for god's sake.

"Why do you care?" she asked but it was merely a quiet whisper. Harry moved closer, seeing her watery eyes she tried hiding behind a scowl.

"I never told you how sorry I am about your brother. Cedric spoke about you at the quidditch world cup."

"He did?" she asked but again it was as quiet as a whisper and Harry barely heard it. He nodded smilingly.

"Is that all?" she spat, remembering who she was talking with. She pushed back the tears that were near spilling, she had gotten good at hiding them but it seemed like Harry already acknowledged them.

"It's weird you two are so much alike yet completely different. Of course I never knew him as much as you do."

"Exactly and you know nothing about me!"

"You're right, I don't. I just wanted to say, be careful about who you hang out with."

"Draco you mean? Everyone needs to stop telling me what to do. I can take care of myself."

"I'm sure you can, just wanted to—"

"No, you don't know what you're talking about."

"I think I know quite a bit and that's why I wanted to warn you. Be careful."

She couldn't understand his kindness when all she ever did was being rude. Her eyes softened for a moment as she thought about Cedric's kindness.

"Anyways, merry Christmas."

She looked him in the eyes and gave him a faint smile. He was quite surprised when she did it reminded him of no other but Cedric.
