CHAPTER TENSpending the holidays alone at Hogwarts was harder than she imagined. She received several gifts from her friends but other than that she had no social contact with anyone what so ever. Saying she was excited to see her friends again was an understatement. She sat in the common room, awaiting their arrival impatiently.
Someone placed her hands over her eyes from behind. The person leaned closer and whispered "Guess who it is, Diggory."
"Alright, Zabini." smirked Liz before jumping up and wrapping her arms around the guy's torso. Blaise lifted her up and twirled her around. Both were laughing until they plopped on the couch next to one another.
"How was Christmas?" he asked, looking into her bright green eyes. She shrugged saying "Nothing special, you?"
Blaise could obviously see right through her but knew whenever she didn't want to talk about it. He decided not to ask about it and decided to distract her by telling her about his eventful holidays.
"He's like a slimy toad that slouches around the house all day, I don't even get what my mom sees in him."
Liz chuckled seeing Blaise's disgusted face.
"Honestly, I don't think she even knows herself. All she does is complain about his bad breath."
"Gross."
Suddenly the door of the common room opened and a certain pale blond walked through. The bags under his eyes were inevitable, it seemed like he hadn't slept much. The two shared a look, even though it wasn't spoken out loud they both missed each other. Draco gritted his teeth and turned right back around to leave.
"He doesn't look too good," Blaise commented and she couldn't agree more. She hated the things Draco did but she could never hate him even if she wanted to. The thought of him endangering himself made her icky but Draco seemed to have his mind set into doing what Voldemort asked him to do. She just hoped something or someone would stop him.
The Slytherin friends sat in the great hall. They were playing a good old card game whilst chattering of other people surrounded them.
"You bastard! You're cheating, Goyle!" Pansy complained and pinched his arm. The two then began bickering as usual and not long after Crabbe joined the discussion, complaining about their bickering.
Liz and Blaise sat opposite of them and watched the scene unfold in amusement. They clinked their glasses filled with pumpkin juice together and bursted out in laughter.
"Where's the popcorn at?" asked Liz chuckling. Blaise snickered and bumped his arm against hers.
Suddenly her attention was taken by someone who walked into the hall. Katie Bell strutted inside looking healthy again. Last time the Slytherin saw her she was levitating in the air and cursed because of her former boyfriend. She couldn't help but feel guilty about it even though it wasn't her fault. Relief washed over her to see the girl breathing healthily.
Not long after Harry came barging in, stopping Katie probably to ask her how she was feeling or what she remembered about that day. In other words, trying to find out if Draco had cursed her.
Soon after Draco had entered the hall, walking in with a flustered look on his face when he saw both Harry and Katie. Draco turned straight back around, his fists balled and Harry followed in a hurry.
"Shit," mumbled Liz and raised from her seat. Blaise and her friends were too busy fighting to even notice she left. Liz ran through the corridors and found Harry running into the male restroom. For a moment she waited outside, pacing around and contemplating her possible actions.
She jumped when she heard glass shattering over the bathroom floor. She pulled the wand from her pocket and ran inside. She ducked down to avoid the jinxes being shot around.
"Sectumsempra!" Harry shouted and Liz' face went pale. Draco fell onto the wet floor and soon a bloody red substance gushed out of him. She leaped forwards, leaning over his gasping body. His once white shirt was now covered in blood stains.
"Draco!" she cried and placed her hand on his cold cheek. He locked eyes with the one person who was possible to keep him sane, her bright green eyes were comforting in so many ways. He continued gasping for air and grunting in pain.
Liz took her wand out but had no possible clue what to do. The spell was foreign to her and panicked not knowing how to fix it.
"What did you do?" Liz scowled looking at Harry. She outstretched her arm, pointing her wand at the boy who lived. Harry raised his hands in surrender and opened his mouth to speak when suddenly Professor Snape barged inside.
"L-Liz.." Draco managed to stutter in between his gasps for air. She dropped her wand and placed her hand into his big one. She caressed his cheek, looking into his eyes whilst Snape began murmuring an unknown spell.
"Vulnera Sanentur."
"It's going to be ok, I promise." she whispered to the blond who kept his eyes on her. Every color had left his pale face. Tears had already escaped her eyes, she couldn't lose anyone else.
Slowly but steadily the blood disappeared and the wounds healed. Little did Liz know that the creator of the spell himself was standing right besides her.
"Will he be alright?" she asked, her voice shaky. Professor Snape nodded sternly and picked the boy up into his arms. Unwillingly Liz was forced to let go of his big hand and found herself alone in the restroom.
Her clothes were drained in both blood and water. She could barely process what had just happened and how she had almost lost the boy she cared about more than she realized.
She pressed her face into her palms and let out a shaky sob. For once she didn't care if others could hear or see her cry. She was tired of hiding it, tired of hiding her feelings. And she realized just then that there was no way she was going to watch Draco make the biggest mistake of his life. She was going to do everything to stop him.
