CHAPTER TWELVE

She ran up the wooden stairs of the astronomy tower wanting to give in to her thoughts. But when she saw Dumbledore and no other than Harry apparating onto the balcony she froze in place. They were hastily speaking about something. Dumbledore appeared to be exhausted by something. Liz was about to make herself known when Harry ran into her direction. His eyes widened seeing the Slytherin girl but he grasped her wrist and pulled her with him underneath the stairs.

"What the hell—" her voice was muted when Harry covered her mouth with his hand. She was about to protest when she heard Dumbledore speak above them.

"Good evening, Draco."

That's when she saw the blond, his wand aimed at the old headmaster. She struggled to get Harry's hand off, wanting to shout at Draco, wanting to get him to stay away. But Harry held her back. They looked up through the stairs and could see the blond walking towards Dumbledore.

"What brings you here on this fine spring evening?"

"Who else is here? I heard you talking." Draco answered making Liz winch at the sound of his voice.

"I often talk aloud to myself. I find it extraordinarily useful. Have you been whispering to yourself, Draco?"

Draco clenched his teeth, his hand trembling ever so slightly with the knowledge of what was about to happen.

"Draco, you are no assassin."

"How do you know what I am? I've done things that would shock you."

"Like cursing Katie Bell and hoping that in return she'd bear a cursed necklace to me? Replacing a bottle of mead with one laced with poison? Forgive me, Draco. I cannot help feeling these actions are so weak your heart can't really have been in them."

"He trusts me, I was chosen!" Draco revealed his dark mark by pulling his sleeve up. Harry could feel warm tears falling onto his hand as it still covered her mouth. He gently let go and looked into her watery green eyes for a brief moment.

"Then I shall make it easy for you."

"Expelliarmus!" Draco disarmed the old wizard, but it was too easy, like Dumbledore wasn't even trying to fight it. "Very good, very good."

Harry pointed his wand up at the blond through the floor boards, surprisingly Liz didn't even stop him. She wanted to but on the other hand if it meant stopping Draco from committing a crime than she'd rather choose that. She stumbled backwards at the sound of other voices.

"There are others? How?" questioned Dumbledore.

"The vanishing cabinet in the room of requirements. I've been mending it." said Draco.

"Let me guess, it has a sister, a twin."

"In Borgin and Burkes. They form a passage."

"Ingenious. Draco, years ago I knew a boy who made all the wrong choices. Please, let me help you."
