We are safe, for now, at least.
After clearing the route, we decide to stop for a bit of much needed rest. I find another carelessly forgotten note left on the shelf in the shed were inside.
Village's Last Defense.
I clearly underestimated the capability of the two American agents. They're still alive.
I thought that we could wait until the egg hatched, but at this rate, they could both destroy the whole village before it does. We must take care of these nuisances.
We shall change our priorities-For the time being, we will cease our hunt for Luis and ambush the three Americans.
There is a building used to enlighten betrayers just beyond the point where you get off of the lift.
It's a perfect place for ambushing them. If all else fails, they still would need to face me in order to get past the last gate that leads out of the village.
For only before my sight will the gate open.
I am seriously tired of these riddles. Why can't these people just speak plainly?
And not that I'm really complaining, but they really need to stop leaving their plans laying around.
I leave Leon and Ashley for a few moments to meet up with the merchant to buy a rocket launcher. Things are starting to get really crazy right now, and I have a gut feeling that we'll need it. I strap it onto my back, and shift the rifle to sit across my chest.
A few minutes from our resting point is a Gondola lift. The three of us carefully hop on, as it looks to be a little old. I start sniping Ganados waiting on the other side for us. Our distance from them makes their danger to us extremely low, and therefore makes it thousands of times easier to headshot them.
Some start boarding Gondolas coming in our direction, and I start taking care of those too. We reach the other side, and step off onto the platform. There is a building attached to the platform, so we move through there, soon coming across a cavern-like pathway with a nice dynamite thrower accompanied by his friend who likes to pull axes out of his ass.
I find this large stone slab with fresh blood on it. I am not surprised considering how batshit these people are.
The cavern doesn't appear to lead anywhere, so we go back outside and take the stairs lower, eventually finding a metal gate. We push it open and walk through it. There's another path through the woods and at the end of it is a barn. I push my ear up against the doors.
Nothing.
"Well, it sounds pretty quiet. Should we go in?" I ask my partner. He nods.
"You better stay outside and hide." Leon instructs Ashley.
"But you said it's quiet" Ashley says to me.
"Just in case" I add quickly. "These assholes have all kinds of tricks up their sleeves."
"Yeah. Alright." She runs off to hide somewhere, as Leon opens the door.
We walk inside and look around. I flinch as I see something move in the corner of my eye, but I stay calm.
Suddenly, I feel a huge presence behind us and I gulp.
Well, shit.
The Chief grabs me by the arm and throws me across the barn into a wall. Leon follows soon after. The Chief doesn't look very happy to see us. He locks the barn doors from the inside by twisting the handles together, blocking our only escape route.
The Chief makes an instant grab for Leon afterwards, but he moves out of the way. Leon kicks over a container filled with gasoline and it spills onto the floor near the angry bearded man.
"Hasta luego." Leon says, and then shoots the gasoline, lighting it on fire.
We both move out of the way before the gasoline container explodes. Now the barn is on fire.
"I have a strange feeling that didn't bother him much." I say.
I hear growling and turn around. The Chief starts mutating into some weird humanoid centipede looking thing. I make a face of disgust.
"Why can't these things ever mutate into something pretty?" I question.
"Come on, second level, let's go." Leon says.
I follow after him, he probably knows what he's doing. I cannot use my rifle because this thing is constantly moving, constantly attacking us with his arms. If I stop for even a second I could die. Shooting while moving isn't my strength but it seems to work as his body splits into two halves.
He doesn't die, no, because I know neither of us were expecting this fight to be that easy.
We end up being forced back down to the bottom floor because the fire begins to make the second floor unstable. I grab my rocket launcher and kneel, aiming it at the disgusting thing. Just as I'm about to shoot, it attacks. I roll backwards and look to Leon.
"You're gonna have to distract him!" I say.
He starts by running a little too close to the gross thing to catch his attention. Then he starts running around in a circle to to keep him confused and preoccupied. I take another knee and then start aiming.
This has to be perfect, if I fuck this up, I could kill us all.
Leon dodges a close call with one of the arms and looks at me in annoyance, probably wondering what's taking so long.
"Okay..." I tense my shoulders "Leon!"
He rolls out of the way of another attack and runs back towards me, just as the thing turns around to follow, I launch a rocket at it. The explosion launches me backwards and I skid across the ground. Leon helps me up and then moves over to the corpse of The Chief.
He's dead.
I almost smack Leon when he picks up his eyeball and puts it into his pocket.
"What the fuck are you doing?" I ask.
"His eye? It fell out."
"So, why did you pick up, you weirdo?"
"I think we need it to open the door."
"And what makes you think that?"
He rolls his eyes and walks away, not answering my question.
"Hey! Wait just a minute!" I screech, running after him.
We leave through a collapsed hole in the wall.
"Leon! Are you going to communicate with me or what?"
He exhales deeply "It was in the note earlier. "For only before my sight will the gate open." Remember?"
"Oh. And you think it meant his eye? Like his literally eye?" I question.
"What else would it be? His ass?" He bites back at me.
I snort and look away. Someone's in a bad mood.
"Are you okay, guys?"
