"Wow." I whisper. "That was intense."
The sewers smell like death and decay, which makes sense since there are plenty of rotting dead bodies down here.
"I am not looking forward to see this right hand of his." I say.
"We'll be fine." Leon says.
Hairs stand up on the back of my neck as we walk into a room with an elevator. I feel like something is following us.
"The elevator isn't working. I guess the power's our." Leon sighs.
"Well, let's go figure out how to turn it back on." I say.
When we exit the room, a long black blades tentacle shoots down from the ceiling. We both dodge successfully, and I start looking up at the ceiling as if it just committed a heinous act.
"What the fuck?!"
The growling is what disturbs me. What is that thing? Is that his right hand?
Leon and I decide to keep moving, since it is clearly above us. It continues to harass us from above, but we simply just dodge. We find the elevator's power unit and Leon flips the switch back on.
"It's going to take four minutes for the elevator to get here." Leon says, and then moves to try and open the shutter. "Yeah, this isn't going to open for a while now."
"Why?"
"Safety reasons."
"Ah"
The thing that's been attacking us chooses this beautiful moment to jump down from above us. It looks fucking terrifying.
Leon gives it a shotgun blast to the head and it does nothing.
"Oh, that's special." He says.
"Oh my gosh, this is getting ridiculous." I look around for something else we can use.
I dodge as it swipes at me, and then I give it a nice shot to the chest from my magnum. Does absolutely nothing.
Something very nice and convenient catches my eye.
Liquid nitrogen!
I grab the canister and throw it onto the floor, the nitrogen sprays onto the creature, hurting it. Leon starts shooting the crap out of it, apparently the nitrogen does plenty to assist in making the shots more effective.
"Leon! The shutter is open! Let's go!"
We both haul ass out off that room, except I can hear it start to follow us. I kick over another canister and the creature gets caught up in the nitrogen again. Leon gives it a few pumps of the shotgun, and then we both take off again.
We run into a room nearby and Leon kicks out yet another canister. The creature still hasn't learned it's lesson. A few more taps from the shotgun and the whole creature literally shatters. I breath a sigh of relief, leaning over to catch my breath.
"I'm literally going to have heart attack." I hiss.
Leon sits down for a moment, so I take that as a queue that he needs a break. I notice blood in the corner of his mouth, he probably coughed it up recently.
"Have you been taking the pills?"
He shakes his head.
"Take one, seriously."
"But Ashley-"
"Do you see how many are in there? There will be enough for you both. Take one, please."
He always does what I ask if I beg, because I rarely ever do. This is hardly the time for him to not be paying attention to his health. After a few minutes of taking the pill, he insists we go to take the elevator now, so we do.
We go deeper, into the mine area. According to Luis' notes that we find, the mining in this area is actually how the Las Plagas were resurrected since they were originally fossilized. The Las Plagas had remained dormant in the form of spores, and the villagers ended up inhaling them while excavating, which led to them becoming infected.
I frown, hoping that I don't end up inhaling anything weird.
Everything down in the mines is a fucking nightmare, The Ganados, The El Gigante and the Chainsaw guys even make a nice return. It's fucking ridiculous.
People wonder why I hate this job, and it's because of shit like this. I did not go to the police academy to become a government agent, I went to become a cop. A fucking cop. Y'know?
The kind that deal with drug addicts, speeding teenagers and the occasional shootout. Not mutants and whatever the fuck.
And then I was forced to go through government training and then join them to fight shit that looks like they were pulled out of a horror movie. If I told any random civilian about what I've fought, they would laugh at me and think I'm joking.
Of course, I can't tell them because it's classified information but you catch my drift.
The caves do not seem to be any better, those Novistadors that Salazar was talking about start appearing once more, except in endless amounts that are just unacceptable.
"I hate this! I am so over this place!" I complain loudly. "When we get home, we are taking a mandatory vacation!"
"I second that motion." Leon chuckles.
A Novistador literally grabs the rifle from my hand and rugs on it, trying to run off with my weapon. I pull back hard on it, and we end up in a tugging match.
"Am I seriously fighting over my rifle with a fucking insect?!" I keep my right hand on my rifle, and my left hand draws my magnum. I shoot the damn thing and then wince in pain. I had completely forgotten about my shoulder.
"Are you okay?" Leon calls from a distance.
"I'm fine." I answer. "I'm just sick of all these fucking bugs!"
"Thought you always wanted to come to Spain?"
"Leon, I swear, I will shoot you in the kneecaps."
