They had finished the walk to school in silence, or more accurately, Diana did. Kai was only a slight shadow floating slowly behind her. She went through her day as she had before, barely making it through her classes and doing only what she had to do just to get through it. At lunch, she was surprised to see Avani come sit across from her with a smile on her face.
"Hey Ana!", she said with more enthusiasm than was necessary. She used the name Kai used to call her and hearing it only reminded Diana of the fact that she managed to push him away even when he was dead.
"So how've you been?", she had returned to her normal demeanor.
"Alright, not much has changed, why are you here?". Diana wasn't willing to engage in much small talk today and she was curious why Avani had decided to try to be friends again.
"Just wanted to check up on you, saw you sitting here so I thought why not."
"Really?" Diana said, unconvinced.
"So what's up with Edward's new girlfriend? My sister saw him at dinner with some trailer park trash thot?"
There it is, she thought, why would she actually care about me, Edward doesn't even go here anymore and he's still the only reason anyone talks to me. She sat for a second, just staring at Avani until she got uncomfortable and walked away, Diana was not in the mood to deal with Avani's question or even think about Rebecka.
She walked home, truly alone this time. Diana had almost forgotten all those months she was truly by herself, but it was all coming back to her now. She quickly did her homework and got in the shower, blaring her music because who would be there to hear it? She screamed along to Satisfied and Non-Stop and took her anger out on the almost empty conditioner bottle, trying to get the last of the product out. She tried to keep Kai off her mind, but the more she tried not to think about him, the more she did. She made dinner and relaxed in front of the TV, sitting on the white leather couch with her spaghetti because, fuck it.
Of course, at that moment, Kai popped up right next to her and scared the scarlet pasta right out of her hands.
"AAAAHHHHH FUCKK!!!", she screamed. "KAI WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO THAT?!?!?"
He looked like he thought he might die again jumped up and yelled, "I'M SORRYYYYY"
"HELP ME CLEAN THIS UP YOU PLASMA IMBECILE"
