I miss the cantors of the morning,
Proud declaimers making good
With cheery song and gimlet eye
On night's bold promise that we
Live, laugh, love another day,
Untouchable in high towers that,
Wind-rusted red and gold,
Marry earth to Heaven despite us,
Defiant of our indifference.
