LATER THAT NIGHT
10:36 pm
"Do you have all your things?" I asked Asia, in her room.
"Yea, just about." She said, wrapping up her phone charger. She put it in her suitcase and zipped it shut. "Done."
"Okay, let's go downstairs." I said, as we left the room.
We didn't pack too heavy, because we'd have to walk with all our stuff and keep it with us on the bus. Just as we got down the stairs, August was coming out of his room.
"She knows we're coming?" Asia asked, as we waited patiently for him to come down.
"Yea, I just spoke to her. Our rooms and stuff are ready." I said.
"Okay, I'm ready." August said.
"How are we going to make it? We have like no money on us." Asia said, sitting on her suitcase.
"You seem to be forgetting that we are filthy rich; richer than Justin Bieber." I said, sitting on mine.
"Oh yea, I'm so naïve. So are we gonna leave now?"
"Uh, yea but I don't know what's holding me back." I said, trying to remember if there's anything I'm forgetting.
"There shouldn't be anything holding you back. Have you forgotten what we've been through? They're horrible parents and don't care about anything we're involved in. They killed our brother. Their own flesh and blood, son. What could possibly be holding you back?"
Asia was right. I was finally on the brink of my freedom. On the edge of a change in my life. A good change. A happy change, and not just for myself, but for Asia and August too. This was it. The rest of my life, we'll be free!
"Y'all really should've left when I told you to." Mom said from the top of the stairs.
Asia and I looked up at her while August kept his head straight. I saw a small stick figured thing in her hand and my heart rate sped up.
Shoot, I thought, I swear I had it.
"We were just about to." Asia said.
"No one is leaving till I find out whose this is." She said, holding up a mysterious object.
"What is it?" Asia said.
"Are you blind?!" Mom said, throwing it down the stairs.
It hit me in the forehead and I caught it in my hands as it fell, confirming that it, indeed, was my pregnancy test.
"No, but you're obviously stupid to throw it."
I knew she was only talking to her like that because we were leaving. She wanted to get her anger out and leave satisfied. My mom was crazy, though. I was surprised she didn't come down the stairs and beat the black off of her yet.
"You're lucky I'm too lazy to come down there to you right now, because you're pushing my buttons."
"You're always lazy." Asia mumbled.
"Whose is it?!"
"What is it?!"
"It's a pregnancy test." I said softly, looking up at Asia.
She narrowed her eyes at me. "Well it's not mine."
I bit my lip.
"You pregnant Abigail?" Mom said.
August looked up at me.
I didn't say anything, but I didn't have to. My face said it all.
"I've given birth to a slut."
