I woke up later that morning to feed Aaliyah. When I checked the time, it was 8:14 am. That wasn't so bad.
"You are such a good baby," I said picking up the crying munchkin, "you always sleep through the whole night and you never give mommy trouble." I kissed her and then positioned her to feed. As soon as she latched on, I picked up my phone to text Graeme.I miss you I said.
He answered within ten minutes. I knew he was awake because it was the middle of the week so he was at school.
Good morning beautiful
How did you sleep?I grinned from ear to ear reading his messages. Good thank you. How about you?
Not so great
Why not?
Because I didn't get any sleep
Why not?
Because I missed you
Aaaww I'm sorry
When am I seeing you again?
Drop by anytime
Do you want to meet me after school?
Ok just send me the directions.
Ok
I have to bring my cousin though
Your sister can't take her?
Oh, hell no!
No, I don't trust her. She doesn't know enough to take care of her.
Where's her mom?
She's sick so she can't take care of her cause she might get the baby sick
Oh
If you really don't want her around I can just find a way.
It offended me that he didn't want Aaliyah around. Then again, it may have been different if he knew she was my daughter.
I'll leave her with my friend? I said.
You can bring her if you want
No it's fine, Jess will take her. See u later
Okay
I looked down at Aaliyah and stroked her smooth baby hairs. "I wonder why he doesn't like you," I said, "you're the best baby ever. It's okay, Aunty Jess will love to have you," I smiled at her, "Aunty Jess loves you...but mommy loves you more."
I went downstairs after she had finished eating, to watch tv. When I got to the living room, I saw Asia in the kitchen.
"Oh hey, you're up!" She said.
I was wondering why she was up. "Hey," I said continuing to the living room.
She followed and sat beside me as I put Aaliyah in my crossed-legged lap. "So let's talk about August first. Jail?"
It was way too early for heavy conversation; I was slowly getting annoyed with her and I didn't even see her five minutes yet.
"Now's not a good time," I said, flipping through channels."Oh okay...have you had breakfast?"
No Asia, have you seen me at all this morning besides now? Common sense please, I thought.
"Nope," I decided to say instead.
"Oh ok, I'll get you some fruits."
I hated to admit it to myself but ever since she had been gone, I kind of liked life better. She was so negative all the time, but what confused me is that since she'd been back she'd been nothing but nice to me.
