"Mum, what's happening in town?" I exclaimed the moment my mother picked up the phone, ignoring all formal greetings and getting straight to the point. I heard her breathing hitch, then the shuffling of her body. I could hear the way the long dress she is wearing swirl around her as she finds a seat on the couch. The old creak of it a key indicator that she is sitting down.
"I didn't want to have to tell you this..." My mother whispered into the phone, probably gathering her thoughts from whatever happened. I was about to speak again when she cut me off. "Mikasa's grave was robbed. Her coffin and body have vanished, only a black rose was left. The police haven't found the suspect..." Her voice trailed off.
I became all too aware all too quickly of how everything is escalating. First Armin disappears, now Mikasa was stolen from her eternal tomb. What's next? Levi and I get kidnapped too? I was not going to let that happen.
"Mother, when did all this happen?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. It took everything in me to not go on a wild angry chase for the person doing this.
"Three days after you left..." Her voice cracked, leaving unwanted sobs to escape her lips. Ever since I left nothing good happened. My poor mother had to withstand knowing her last living child was gone and her dead child was awakened from eternal slumber.
"Alright, mother, I think I know what happened. Call one of your friends and ask to stay with them until I call you again. Don't leave the house and don't be alone in a room for too long. I believed I've finally figured everything out," I hung up the phone before she could speak again. Although it was rude, I wasn't going to start crying again. No more tears shall be shed because of this monster.
"LEVI!" I yelled, looking throughout the main hall for the man. I walked away from the telephone box and towards the children who I've become fond of. They sat around a table, talking amongst themselves. Everyone in the room spoke in hushed whispers, afraid to awake any silent mystery that was looking over.
Historian had the puffiest and reddest eyes I've ever seen, tears still falling down her face. She sat leaned against Ymir, the latter petting the formers head in an act of kindness. Ymir let her guard down only around Historian, and I could tell just how great of friends they are. Even at a young age, I can tell they will never leave each others side.
Farlan sat on the other side of the table, holding onto the ocean book Armin was mindlessly babbling about just hours earlier. He looked depressed and angry, a young red head with lots of energy trying to cheer him up. I could tell it wasn't working.
"It's okay, Farlan. Mr. Eren and Mr. Levi will find Armin!" The red head exclaimed, taking Farlan's hands and holding onto them. He looked at her with lost eyes, wishing for the same youthful vigor that she currently possessed.
"Isabel, right?" I asked the red head, her name only just now popping into my mind. I remember her from the first night and the many other times her fiery red hair goes flying past me. She nodded and smiled, sticking a hand out in a greeting. I shook her tiny hand with a soft smile plastered to my face.
"Don't worry Mr. Eren, I will make sure Farlan is okay!" She exclaimed, red hair bouncing up and down in the pigtails she had it in. She then quickly went back to the sulking Farlan.
"Ymir, Historia, where did Levi go?" Both girls looked up at me, but neither said anything. They looked towards the front entrance, then back to me. Then back towards the front. A sinking feeling formed in my stomach at the thought of Levi having gone out there alone.
"Thanks girls," I ruffled up the hair on their heads before heading out the front door. I heard the ominous crack of lightning and booming of thunder. Today was not going to be a good day, I could just tell.
I got to our cabin as quickly as possible, yanking the key from my pocket and unlocking the creaking door. The wood door had grown moss and was covered in small bugs, but that was in the back of my mind. I had to find Levi and make sure he was safe. And then we can find Armin and be over with this everlasting nightmare.
The scene when I opened the door brought me back to ten years ago, the window broken and open wide. The window curtains blowing wildly at the ever growing amount of wind. Patches of blood were in small spots and contained to only the ground. I saw another black rose in the center of a puddle of blood, the black colour slowly turned red from the blood. It was a deep crimson red, only the top of the rose wasn't red. Whoever set this up was going through a lot just to hurt me.
Swallowing the bile riding up my throat, I grabbed a hooded jacket and a small pocket knife I kept in my suitcase. Ever since Mikasa was killed I carried around a knife to protect myself and any other person close to me. Today would be the day I used the shiny pocket knife.
I stepped out of the cabin, putting on the jacket and stuffing the knife in my pocket. I knew where they were, no note could tell me what I already knew.
Tonight I would find my friend, the child I was supposed to take care of, and the killer of my sister.
