"You have your keys?" My mother asked, giving off her famous and heartwarming smile towards me. I nodded my head, throwing said keys high above my head before catching them.
"Have a safe trip, my dear. I love you, and call me when it's over!" She said, hugging me as tight as she possibly could. Don't get me wrong, I love my mother to death, but she likes to actively kill you with her hugs.
"Mom...can't breath!" I manage to say, lightly grabbing her shoulders to pull her back. She laughed and kissed my cheek before backing herself up. She smiled and looked at me with tears in her eyes.
"Eren, promise me you won't do anything reckless,"
"I promise, mama. I have to get going, I love you," I kissed her head before hopping over to my car and getting inside. I reversed the car and waved to her as I carefully backed out of the driveway.
She waved back ecstatically (probably finally happy to see me leave the house on my own). As soon as I had driven out of sight of her I leaned back and took one hand off the steering wheel. I know, I'm such a rebel only using one hand to drive. Trust me, Mama Jaeger would be furious to find out her "precious son" had driven with only one hand.
Along with rebelling and only using one hand to drive, I quickly pulled up Spotify™ on my phone during a red light I was stopped at. Pressing a random playlist, I found myself all set to go spend the next four weeks in a place that absolutely broke me as a child.
I figured that, seeing as this would be my last year in America for who knows how long, I would be a camp counselor at this wonderful place known as Camp Shiganshina. It was (and still is, I suppose) deep inside the forest that surrounds the fairly large town. It was a lakeside view with large cabins and a barn that basically reeked of teenage sex whenever you entered it.
My sister and I only went to the barn once; we had caught two teens in the act and swore a vow never to speak of that moment again. Of course I didn't follow that, quietly whispering about how so-and-so were getting it on in an old grubby barn. Trust me, they weren't happy to find out what I had said.
But the absolute best part of Camp Shiganshina was the fact that it is two hours outside of the city limits. When I said the town of Shiganshina was surrounded by a forest, I wasn't joking. For acres of every side there are trees upon trees. And, now as an adult, I realized how much driving in the woods is really freaking creepy.
I had just past the city limits when a hitch hiker came into view, sticking a thumb right out and into the road. Usually, I wouldn't pick up strangers, but this one was different. Not only was he wearing a Camp Shiganshina counselor uniform, but he was also extremely handsome. A perfectly chiselled jaw line, sharp nose and cheek bones, and beautiful inky black hair that just barely covered his eyes.
I slowed my car down to a stop and opened the passenger side door, allowing the beautiful man to enter my car. He threw his stuff in the backseat and took a seat, buckling up before looking at me with an expectant look.
"Names Eren, you?" I asked, not letting the expectant look of the hot man get to me.
"Levi, I'm heading to Camp Shiganshina,"
"Lucky for you, so am I. I'm a camp counselor this year. I presume you are as well?" I started up the conversation, pulling back onto the road and starting to drive in the direction of the camp.
"Something like that. My so called friends kicked me out of the car when I refused LSD and to give one of them a BJ. Assholes. They are my only ride and I end up getting screwed over because I have morals," He rambled, relaxing ever so slightly into the seat of my car.
"Sounds wonderful. All my friends refused to join me in being a camp counselor. Something along the lines of "we're too cool to hang out with a bunch of kids"," I said, smiling over to the beautiful stranger. He gave a slight smile back before talking again.
"I've been out there for an hour, hoping someone would pick me up. Everyone would either flip me off or ignore me, so why would you pick me up?" He looked over to me, sharp blue eyes digging into the side of my face.
"Couldn't ignore something so beautiful," is all I said, a blush starting to form over my face.
"Glad you didn't," is all he said before silence overtook the both of us. The sweet sound of Brendon Urie's voice was the only sound in the car, allowing me to tap my fingers along to the music. Currently The Good The Bad And The Dirty was playing and I couldn't resist singing along to such an amazing song.
I saw Levi with an amused look in his eyes, watching me sing my lungs out along with Brendon Urie. As the song came to an end, Levi turned his whole body to face me.
"So what's your story, Eren?" He asked. Him saying my name was like music to my ears (and I'm usually not that selfish).
"I'm nineteen, full ride scholarship to Dundee in their Forensics department starting this fall, and have a really shitty childhood. You?"
"Nineteen also, currently working at a Cafe and an uppity high class restaurant to pay my rent, skipped going to college, and was abandoned as a child and basically ended up on the streets."
"So hitchhiking must come naturally to you," I joked, earning a punch in my right shoulder.
"You brat," he muttered, obviously not up to par in his insult game. I laughed, fixing my eyes back on the road and continued the long drive to the camp.
