Bright white light seeped into my vision as I opened my eyes. I could no longer feel the pain from my wound or the mass amount of bruises littering my body. I heard the beeping of some sort of machine, felt the rough paper like blankets that I was put under. Obviously I have been placed inside a hospital, but I honestly have no idea where I am.
I cracked open my eyes, the bright light blinding my eyes. I turned my head around slowly, seeing the bland wallpaper and medical equipment. No doubt I'm in a hospital, but how did I get here? I don't remember much after Levi kissed me in that wretched treehouse. I didn't see anyone in the room, so I assumed that I wasn't stable enough for people to visit me.
I felt a sharp pain surge throughout my body, making me gasp in the amount of pain.
"Pain killers must be wearing off..." I mumbled out loud to myself, maneuvering my body around to try and become more comfortable. It was no use as the pain increased with each movement. I could hear the beeping of the heart monitor start going up, beeping at an impressive speed. Seconds later the door slammed open, a doctor standing there trying to assess the situation. The doctor calmed down once they realized I was just waking up and the pain killers were wearing off.
"Oh thank God, I thought you were dying. Anyways, I'm Dr. Mina Carolina. You were in horrible condition when you were brought in. We all thought you wouldn't make it," she said, checking my IV tubes and blood pressure. I sighed, so happy that a doctor didn't think I would live.
"What...injuries did I sustain?" I asked, voice groggy and deep. Probably from not speaking in a while, or for however long I've been out.
"Nothing too bad, some internal bleeding has occured. The knife cut little parts of your intestines but it wasn't anything life threatening. The big issue was your blood loss, you almost didn't make it. You have pretty rare blood, Eren; O-. Thankfully we have just enough to be able to get you stabilized again," she spoke, finishing up her checkups and then staring at me. She has deep black hair and brown eyes, reminding me a little of someone that I am missing dearly. "Oh right, there are people waiting to see you. I'll let them in, you seen to be fine. I kicked up the pain killers just a little, so you might feel a little woozy until they set in."
And just like that she was gone, like how quickly she had come. I relaxed back into the disgusting hard bed, trying to not be so tense. All my time researching and apprenticing at coroner offices never prepared me for the fact that I was almost inside one. Nothing could ever prepare me to know I could have been on an examination table, being carved open by faceless people.
"EREN JAEGER!" I was pulled out of my thoughts as someone screamed my name, throwing the door open in a fit of rage. I looked over quickly and saw my mother in front, followed by Petra, Jean, Marco, Armin and what appeared to be his family, and finally Levi at the back. He looked apologetic as his gaze caught mine. I smiled softly at his figure, finally being able to ensure he was safe. And that I was able to save him.
"Hey mum," I responded to my mother, turning my attention away from Levi. She stared at me, just standing there in the doorway before jumping on me and wrapping her arms as tight as they possibly could get around me. I heard her sobs and felt the tears running into my clothing.
"You almost died...and I couldn't bear to lose another child to that man. I'm so sorry for not telling you earlier," she said, her tears muffling some of her words but I could hear her clearly. I hugged my mother back, glad that she could see I'm safe. Not dead or close to dying. "I tried to tell the police, but they said there wasn't enough evidence. But what you did was so brave."
"Thank you mum, but I wouldn't have been able to do it if it wasn't for Levi. He really helped me through everything that happened," I said, looking up and giving another smile in Levi's direction. His face flushed with embarrassment as my mum lifted her head and looked towards him.
