After Avalon's encounter with Wanda, she was now officially off the radar. No one was able to trace her. Deep inside, the young Stark believed that she should partake in the search for Miss Maximoff, but Wanda needed time to grieve herself. Avalon understood her reasons for her actions. She couldn't understand the exact pain of a partner dying, sure, she lost Loki. Their romance wasn't the same as Wanda and Vision's, but she knew what it felt like for a parent to die. Years ago after the Accords, Wanda ran off with her loved one, hiding from people searching for them. Steve explained this to Avalon.
The lovers thought that they had finally found peace hiding across countries, but they were wrong. Thanos finally made his first move in collecting the stones. He had the power and reality stone, then stole the space stone from Loki, killing him in the process. This still left Avalon haunted by hearing his last breath. From having the stones and tracing them, Thanos was ready to move to Earth for the Mind and Time stone.
Vision was the one to notice the attack that took place from the Black Order, known as the Children of Thanos. Wanda and Vision knew what was about to happen to them. They truly believed they should've had more time together. But, the universe was cruel to them. Fate was unfair to Wanda Maximoff. It always had been. From the moment she was a child to now.
Every remaining Avenger on Earth sought to protect Vision, doing whatever it takes. Making sure that Vision was able to live. Sadly, what they did wasn't enough. Even those Avengers not on Earth, but instead in space, were attempting to protect the world, the universe from Thanos. Again, not even that was enough. Nothing they could do against Thanos was enough.
Vision was killed not once but twice. The first time, as a self-sacrifice to save everyone, Vision had Wanda use her own powers on the stone to attempt to destroy it, and she did. Except, it was too late. Vision said that only two beings on Earth were able to harness enough power to destroy the stone and the other one, other than his love, was off-world. Thanos already had the time stone, meaning he could move back in time in just a pinch, to bring back Vision.
Wanda was forced to witness the love of her life die once more. She tried to interfere but Thanos used the time stone to turn back time. Only by a few seconds to resurrect Vision, and for him to be killed again. Everyone sprung to action to attempt to keep Thanos from snapping his fingers. He cleared house with all the Avengers, they weren't strong or powerful enough for the Titan with infinite power. Thor was enough, or so he believed.
Thor didn't kill Thanos. That was the first mistake. He should've swung his ax and taken off the monster's head, or even the arm the gauntlet was on. At the time, Avalon was unavailable, due to her absorbing the power from the stones. It was too much, overwhelming. Truth be told, it actually felt like it killed her, but Avalon forced herself to overcome it, forcing herself to stay alive.
The pain was excruciating when she absorbed the raw power of the stones. It felt like her body was on fire and unable to move. She saw an array of colors flash through her mind and around her body. A vision had crept through her mind, showing a silhouette of herself. Her eyes were pitch black as shadow wisps floated in the air surrounding her. Bodies were scattered under her feet as she hovered above them.
Thanos snapped his fingers. Half of the people, creatures, and animals all across the entire universe disappeared. Innocent people all over the universe were confused and hurt about why their loved ones were now missing. Even those among the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy were taken away.
When 5 years later everyone came back, nothing was the same. Those who disappeared 5 years before had remained the same age. Everyone else around them grew. Some had new spouses, children, and new homes. What hurt some people the most is the fact that some moved on and never looked back.
