((Ep. 5))
{Wen Mei}"What are we doing here?" I whispered to the older girl as we crouched outside of the library.
She pressed a finger on her lips motioning me to stay silent.
We observed the two teenage boys from an open window. I could feel the awkward tension between Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan in the room as he tried to start a conversation.
After talking to Lan Zhan for a bit he sat back down at his original spot.
I noticed the girl take out a paper and skillfully threw it into the room. The paper exploded into hundreds of tiny, blazing butterflies. Both of the teens watched the butterflies fly around the room when one of the butterflies accidentally caught one of Lan Zhan's books on fire.
He quickly put out the flames and turned in our direction. The both of us ducked down and I looked at her with an anxious expression.
Someone cleared their throat behind us, causing the both of us to slowly turn around. Standing there was the Grand Master and Clan Leader. The Grand Master held a disappointed expression, meanwhile, the Clan Leader had an amused smile on his face.
"Little Wen. You were here as well?" Wei Wuxian asked as he leaned out of the window.
I nodded in reply.
"Not because she wanted to. I practically dragged her all the way here." The girl clarified.
"Lan Xiao! Can't you last at least a day without causing trouble or destroying something?" The Grand Master scowled while I slowly hid behind her.
"The both of you are to receive time to reflect on what you've done." He ordered and began to walk away.
The Clan Leader looked at both of us with a gentle expression and told us to follow him. Lan Xiao followed closely behind him as I followed closely behind her.

《An Hour Later》
Both Lan Xiao and I were kneeling in the courtyard. The ground beneath us was filled with white smooth stones. Although the stones were smooth, the longer you knelt on them the more pain you would feel.
"Mei." I heard my sister's voice call out.
I opened my eyes and saw that she was standing in front of me with her arms crossed.
"I'm sorry I didn't follow your instructions." I apologized.
"This is why I told you not to leave the room. If Wei Wuxian hadn't told me what had happened I wouldn't have found out where you were." She replied.
"I'm sorry."
She let out a sigh and pulled me up.
"We're going back to our room. I hope you learned your lesson today." She scowled.
"It wasn't her fault. I had forced her with me when we got into trouble." Xiao informed as she got up as well.
"That's no excuse. She could have left if she wanted to." Qing replied after some thought.
"It's okay. Although we got into trouble I don't blame you for everything that's happened. This was the most interesting day I've ever had in my life. Most of the time I'm either at home, painting or practicing archery. So today was a change of pace." I looked at Xiao with an understanding smile.
I felt my arm being nudged and began to walk away with my sister.

{Lan Xiao}
"Is there something bothering you?" My oldest brother asked while I looked out the window.
"Not exactly..." I replied as I turned my attention to him.
He was looking at me with a curious expression, showing that he wanted to know what I was thinking about.
"It's just, is it weird if I find Wen Mei a bit similar to Lan Zhan. They both avoid getting into trouble. They're both quiet and a bit hesitant about opening themselves up to others. However, she seems like she wants to have fun... she's just scared." I finished and sat down.
He seemed to ponder for a bit before he sat down beside me.
"Now that you mention it, they do seem a little familiar. Maybe if you get to know her better she'll trust you a lot more and in the process, befriend you. Besides, aren't the both of you around the same age?" He questioned.
"She's a year younger than me. I saw Wei Wuxian not so long ago and asked him about her." I answered.
"A year younger...? She seems mature for her age." He added.
"I thought so too!" I agreed.
"You thought what?" Another voice joined our conversation.
"Oh, nothing. We just thought that you and someone else were similar." Lan Xichen teased.
"Who's similar to me?" Lan Zhan asked.
"No one." I replied with a small laugh.
He just stared at us with a blank expression, then left the room.
My brother and I looked at each other for a few seconds before laughing.
<Author's Note: In this flashback, Lan Xiao is 13 years old, while Wen Mei is 12. Just a small clarification so you all won't be confused^^>
