hey y'all, welcome back to another chapter!! love you all for all the amazing support for this story!!!

It was the worst possible feeling, hearing someone you loved suffer.

It was the feeling Fitz was feeling right now.

Sophie's screams echoed in his head, even after having ended a while ago. The room was dark, and he had no energy to speak. It had been about a day, he supposed, since he last talked to Keefe, and asked him for help. He hoped they were okay. He wondered if they could even find the place, as it was obscure and even he didn't know where it was.

He heard the sound of Sophie's quiet breathing, and he resisted the urge to fall asleep. He had to make sure nothing happened to her. He would kill himself if something did. Right now, it was his responsibility to keep her safe, as he had gotten her into this situation after not being able to protect her.

In the distance, he heard loud, thumping footsteps down the hallway, and he closed his eyes, pretending to be asleep. He peeked his eyes open just slightly as the door creaked open. The fluorescent lights flickered on, and he could see who had come in.

A feeling of hatred set over Fitz, and he forced himself not to move. Alvar stood at the doorframe,     a look of caution on his face. "Here." He said in a gruff voice. "Now give me what I asked for in return."

Someone who Fitz couldn't identify responded. Fitz only made out part of it. "Yeah.................Sophie's...........not yet............."

Whatever they said, Alvar didn't seem to like it. "You promised." He growled, his voice deep. "You promised you would do it when I showed you the room." He sounded menacing, scary, and Fitz almost couldn't stand hearing his brother this way. To just think about how he used to be before was....too much. Was he betraying them even then?

Fitz decided not to think about it.

The voice faded in and out again. "Yeah but.........we need........time.............2 days......."

Alvar made a half-growl half-hiss sound, and Fitz was suddenly flashed back into his childhood.

He was laughing, playing in the yard. Alvar was there, his face shining playfully. He made that familiar, playful growl/hiss he did and grinned. "Oh, you're on."

They ran around the yard, Fitz practicing his levitation while trying to get away, and Alvar constantly used his little growl/hiss in a playful way, slowing down purposefully just so Fitz had a chance to get away.

He remember enjoying the moment so much, one of his favorite, happiest childhood memories to this day.

He snapped back out of it, and that old feeling of missing his brother stirred in his stomach. He attempted to push it back down with anger, hate, the feeling of betrayal. Look what he did to Sophie. To your family. To everyone.

He pushed it aside and tuned back in to the conversation. "That's fine, I suppose." Alvar was saying haughtily. "Now, don't get caught. If you do......" Alvar's eyes flashed with anger. "I will deny everything."

He stalked out of the room, and Fitz shut his eyes, not knowing who he was going to come face to face with at the door.

To Fitz's surprise, no one entered. Not one movement was made to open the steel door. He could hear faint voices, too distant for him to make out the words.

Sophie's voice flooded his head just then.

Fitz?

Hey.

Did you hear that?

Yeah.

Who's out there?

I don't know.

He then felt safe enough to peek open his eyes, and he saw Sophie, her eyes wide open. "Who do you think is out there?" He said softly, his voice barely a whisper.

"I don't know. I don't want to know." Her voice trembled, and she was obviously scared.

The door began to open again, slowly this time, and Fitz shut his eyes, pretending once again he was asleep.

But the voice he heard shocked him, and his eyes flew open.

"Sophie? Fitz?" A tentative voice asked.

Standing there at the door stood Percy.
