IMPORTANT NOTE. IF AMY SAYS SOMETHING THEN SHES MOUTHING IT. ALRIGHT? GOOD. ENJOY THE CHAPTER.
Jaz's POV
I just stare at him. What the hell does he mean by we can't leave? He'll meet my fist if he doesn't let us.
"What do you mean that we can't leave?" I demand.
"You can't leave," he says darkly. "Until you get your cookies! You left them at the counter!" He's immediately cheerful. Bipolar much? Who changes from dark creepy guy to cheerful store owner that quickly?
Reluctantly Maddy grabs the cookies from the counter. The guy smiles, waves and walks deeper into the store.
We all glance at each other before hurrying out of the subway. We all pile into the car before speaking again. The looks on the other's faces say a lot.
"I figured it out." Vira says.
"Figured out what?" Maddy asks.
"Who that guy is and why that place is so out of place. Do not touch those cookies. Give them to me." Vira instructs. Maddy hands her the cookies. They are still in the paper bag meaning she hasn't touched them.
Vira opens the bag and pulls out one of two of the giant chocolate cookies. She examines it before frowning annoyed.
"What?" I ask her really confused about these god damn biscuits.
Hang on, who ordered them...Vira taps the cookie with her fingernail before quickly breaking a small piece off the edge. She shows us the inside. It's hollow.
"What the hell?" I demand.
Vira tips it upside down above her open palm. She shakes the cookie lightly and something falls out. It looks like a piece of paper. Vira throws the cookie out the window and opens up the paper.
She clears her throat."Dear Vira," she starts reading aloud. "How stupid are you? Why would you come here when you know it's not safe? I presume you want something. It's in the other cookie." She finishes. We're all staring at her.
She doesn't say anything as she fishes out the other cookie and breaks it open just like she did with the other one.
She pulls out a piece of paper.
She doesn't read it aloud which does seem suspicious. Maddy holds out her hand. Vira shakes her head."You want us to trust you when you won't even hand over that single piece of paper?" Maddy asks. Vira nods.
"It's a personal thing though. Family. The subway owner who served us, has been helping me keep in touch with them. Please, stay out of it." Vira pleads. Maddy nods understanding and retracts her hand.
"But I will tell you this." She says as we start moving. "We're going to go see my family." we drive out of the petrol station and on to the road. I glance at Amy who looks happy. Hmm, suspicions are raised.
"What's wrong?" Maddy asks me.
"Hm? Oh, nothing. Don't worry." I say and look out the window. I'm not ok though. I don't think the others have realised but we are the only ones who can stop WWIII. We are either going to win the war, or lose the war for the entire of earth.
And the chance of surviving, not very high at all. There's no way we will come out of this unharmed. That's what I'm most afraid of.
