In the days our heroes had off from school, they recovered from their injuries and relaxed for the first time in a while. School had been passing by quickly enough before the sports festival, with English lessons, math, history, and more. It was high school at its extreme.
Speaking of the festival, candid moments or special instances were on a loop or playing back all over the city. Televisions, screens on billboards, and social media had every participant's face on it. Now most people could recognize anyone, and it was surely something to behold.
"Hey, isn't that Midoriya from UA?" a woman's voice asked aloud on a crowded train.
Eyes instantly landed on short little Deku, who had been scrolling through her phone in peace.
"Ah, good job, miss!" a man next to her smiled. "Your skills were amazing at the festival!"
"You were so close!" another man remarked.
"Top eight, right?" a teen boy a little older than her inquired. "That's hot-"
"You're so cool!" a little girl squealed, bouncing in her mom's arms.
"She's smaller than I thought," a man whispered to his wife, who nodded and said something about how she would want to feed the girl until she gained at least 20 more pounds.
"Keep your chin up!" a girl about her age nudged her shoulder. "You'll get even better than you were before!"
"Do your best, hero!!" everyone on the train chorused at a frightened Deku.
"Lay off her, will ya?" Bakugo growled, right next to Deku on the train. "She's fucking uncomfortable."
This sudden realization that the winner of the festival was on-board only sent things further into chaos.
Bakugo came from the same neighborhood as Deku, so naturally, they would ride the same train together. Usually Bakugo walked, but since it was raining on the day they would return to school, he opted for the crowded transport. In the end, he unfortunately ended up getting squished against Deku - a place he did not want to be.
Deku looked up, an apologetically grateful look on her face. Bakugo looked down, sighed, and looked away. He imperceptibly nodded at her as phones flashed to take pictures of the two sports festival participants.
The sports festival was a really big deal to everyone.
But now that it was over, what was to come next?
As they got off the train, Deku opened her umbrella to walk the rest of the way. As she stepped out into the rain, Bakugo came up behind her and snatched it away. She shrieked and covered her now-dripping wet head with her school bag, giving Bakugo a fierce glare as he stood with her umbrella covering himself.
"What the fuck are you giving me that look for?" he snarled. "I forgot my umbrella, okay? Not everyone is an over-prepared nerd. Besides, you're short, and I'd have to sink to your level to stay dry. Just fucking walk under it with me, it's big enough, you crybaby."
"Fine," Deku harrumphed, walking beneath it.
As soon as she was under, she removed her bag and shook her head as they walked. Droplets got on Bakugo's uniform and on his face. This was not a good idea.
"What the hell, you shithead?" Bakugo growled, glaring at her as he wiped his face with one hand. "Maybe I should send you back out into the rain-"
"Aah! No!" she cried. "I'm sorry, Kacchan, I didn't mean for it to-"
"Just shut up," he sighed, shaking his head.
They walked in silence for a meter or two before Deku yawned.
