"Qué?" (A/N I don't speak Spanish...)
Ben rolled his eyes for the nth time, trying to explain to the desk lady that he wanted to visit a certain patient.
He had managed to get to Spain, and it took days. Too many days for his liking, but it was the best he could get and he was thankful to even get this much.
"Can you please get someone he who speaks the same language as I do? I can't understand you."
The woman sighed and stood up. "Volveré a ti lo antes posible." She left to the backroom to get someone.
Ben wasn't sure if she understood what he was asking for, and he couldn't understand her. She could be getting a giraffe from the backroom for all he knew.
The doors soon opened, and a man in a white coat walked upfront. "I hear you have some trouble in Spanish. No worries, I speak multiple languages. So, what are you searching from here? We don't usually accept guests here if I'm honest with you."
"I'm looking for someone." Ben said, smiling a little as he finally understood what the other was saying. "Earth Teerapat, I was told he was transferred here a while ago?"
It scared Ben a little because the guy - he believed he was a doctor from the way he dressed and spoke - wasn't showing any emotions to that. He didn't even blink, not at all.
"I'm sorry, but we don't have a patient with that name here."
Ben narrowed his eyes and looked at the guy's name tag. "Listen, Dome, I didn't fly here for nothing. I know he's here, and I want to meet him even if it were the last thing I did."
Dome looked at Ben from head to toe with searching, dark eyes that seemed to be burningn holes into the taller's skin. Dome's hands were neatly crossed behind his back. "And who are you?"
"Benjamin, Brasier."
It was as if something lit in Dome's eyes, no, on his whole face. He started smiling, but it was subtle, like he was trying to hide it. "I see. Follow me."
Ben didn't know why Dome changed his opinion so quickly, but he wasn't going to decline the invitation. He hurried after Dome, neither of them saying a word.
Ben looked around the place. It was a grand psychiatric hospital, but he didn't see any nurses nor patients anywhere. He didn't hear anything, like the place was empty. That could not have been the case, but to him it seemed like that. The walls were white, like a bone, a little darker than paper or snow. The floors were tiled in dark grey, and there were large windows everywhere, but so high up you wouldn't be able to look through them.
He felt like a ghost roaming through these halls.
"How is he?" Ben asked as he felt like they had been walking for too long without saying anything. He didn't know this man, and so on didn't trust him. Now, Ben had always been a positive person who always thought positively about people, but he was still a human, and certain types of personality gave him the creeps.
"How about you wait, and see for yourself." Dome said. Ben wasn't able to see his face as he wasn't facing him, but he could swear there was a hint of cockiness in his voice. A smirk perhaps.
"Exactly how far is it? We've walked like seven sets of stairs up and down. Where the hell are you keeping him?"
Dome shrugged. "Some experiments require... a harsher environment."
"What does that mean?"
"In order to get his full reaction and the right data, we chose that the basement would be the most suitable space for him."
Ben stopped dead on his tracks. "You treat your patients in a basement? What kinda fucking animals are you people?!"
Dome didn't react to that, but kept the mischievous smile plastered on his face. He didn't stop at all, but kept on walking his unnamed path. "It's necessary for this experiment. If I'm honest with you, Ben, I don't think Earth is suffering from a basic schizophrenia."
"What do you mean... basic?"
"Oh you mundane, there's way more here than you could even imagine."
