24. Losing Fight

Day after day, Tyler got use to the fact of being alone and Josh got use to the fact that Tyler wanted nothing to do with them. It was already January and football season has started along with prom season in May. Tyler was fine with it at first, especially because Brad was still on the team and he was captain. The cafeteria was quiet as usual and Tyler was grateful for that.

"Are you going to any games this season?" Ashley asked.

"I have too, i don't want to miss out on the high school experience." Tyler replied. Everyone in the friend group was happy, hell even Mark was content. No one was angry or fighting, everyone was happy.

The quietness in the cafeteria ended when the football team and cheerleaders bombarded the cafeteria with their screams and excitement. Each football player went around, acting like animals, banging on the tables. Tyler just watched in pure embarrassment as Brad (being the biggest guy of the team) was excited and cheering on the cafeteria. One thing that caught Tyler's eye was the pure anger Josh had in his eyes. What caught Tylers eye more was the glare that Debby gave Josh while she had her pom poms in her hand.

"Either they're about to have the angriest sex ever or they are about to rip each others throats out." Awsten said.

"Whatever it is, its not going to end well at the game tonight." Jenna said.

Everyone agreed as they watched the cheerleading team do a cheer routine. The glares between Josh and Debby got more intense as the cheerleaders did their routine. Once they were done, everyone clapped and cheered. Josh just clapped angrily and glanced over to Tyler. Tyler just sighed and looked down. Josh walked out of the cafeteria angrily. Tyler looked back up to see he was gone and let out a breath of relief.

"The tension was so thick, you could cut it with a knife." Brendon said.

"I feel bad for him." Ashley said.

Everyone kind of hummed in agreement and just watched the football team act like total animals. Debby caught Tylers eye when she glared at him.
Tyler looked away but he could still feel her eyes on him. He sighed and threw the rest of his lunch away and  walked to his locker. Maybe Josh knew he fucked up but the tension was overwhelming. Tyler turned around to see Josh and Debby furiously making out with each other, practically having sex in the middle of the hallway.

"That's disgusting." Geoff said behind him.

"I suddenly do not feel bad for him anymore." Tyler said.

The night of the game had everyone on the football team ecstatic. Tyler watched from the bleachers as crowds of people start showing up. Everyone showed up. it was probably one of the biggest crowds Tyler has ever seen at a high school football game. The crowd cheered as the football team ran out onto the field.

"There's Josh, he's the leader of the team i'm guessing since he's been bringing home wins." Dallon said.

Tyler looked at Josh and something was off. He was too angry to be on the field. It must've made him a better player because he looked ready. Tyler looked over to the cheerleaders who were doing a routine. Tyler spotted the cheer captain herself and rolled his eyes. She had Josh's number painted on her face as she proudly cheered. Tyler moved his eyes away from the cheer team and spotted the football team getting ready for the game to start.

"Im nervous." Tyler said.

Everyone looked over to him, puzzled as to why he would be nervous.

"So am i. He looks pissed and not ready for this game." Jenna said.

Once the word was said, the players crashed into each other as Jack was handed the ball. He ran far enough to throw it to Josh. Josh caught the ball and ran fast towards the touchdown but was knocked down hard by one of the other opponents. The group watched as Josh cursed at the taller opponent. His rage was out of control. The coach ran towards Josh and pulled him away. He glanced over to Tyler and looked away again.

"Okay, maybe this is kind of bad." Ashley said.

"Maybe? This guy is going to fucking lose his shit if he doesn't get it together!" Awsten said.

"I'm with Awsten on this one. Josh is very short tempered. That hasn't changed." Brendon said.

As the game went on, Josh kept messing up every single time. The crowd was upset and confused on why this is happening. although their team was winning, it was still a disappointment. Every time Josh messed up, he'd curse up a storm.

Finally the game was over and everyone started to leave the bleachers but, Tyler stayed.

"Ty, you comin'?" Geoff asked.

"I'll meet you in 10." Tyler said

Geoff sighed and walked out of the bleachers and towards the parking lot.

He watched Josh and Debby argue for five minutes until Debby said the final 'fuck you' and left him there to pick up his helmet. Josh sat on the bench and just stared into the field. Tyler sighed and went down towards the bench. His anxiety was through the roof but the care he still had for Josh made him build up courage to talk to him.

"Hey there, stranger." Tyler said, sitting next to Josh.

Josh sighed, "Don't you have Geoffs dick to be sucking?"

Tyler let out a small laugh and grabbed Josh's helmet. He knew what Josh meant. Tyler didn't blame him honestly. He knew Josh was angry at the fact that Geoff had been spending more time with him after Josh left.

"No actually, he left with Awsten." Tyler replied

Tyler watched Josh's haw clench as he asked, "What do you want, Ty?"

"Just to check in. Make sure you're okay." Tyler said.

"Im fine. Its actually none of your fucking concern, you don't care anymore." Josh said.

Tyler wasn't going to lie, that hurt a little bit. He wished it was still his concern but, obviously Josh was still upset. He let it slide and looked at Josh with concern.

"Josh I know you're upset and I'm sorry that you feel this way." Tyler said.

Josh let out a sigh and looked at Tyler. It was one that Tyler had never seen before. It was the one Tyler never wanted to see after they broke up. Josh's eyes started to water and fill until tears were spilling down his cheek. Tyler watched him smile softly and look down at the ground.

"I'm a fucking mess." Josh said.

"Josh.."

"I didn't mean anything to go bad between us and somehow I fucked up. I lost my friends, I lost you, I lost the people who mean the most to me and you want to sit here and talk to me about how im doing? After everything that happened?" Josh said.

Tyler felt an extreme amount of guilt build up in his stomach. He didn't know Josh was feeling like this. He couldn't even think about what he did next all he knew was that his lips were on Josh's in half a second. Josh pulled away immediately and stared at Tyler in confusion.

"I'm so sorry!" Tyler said with tears filling up in his eyes.

He got up and left Josh there in confusion. This was a losing fight with Josh and he was the one caught in the middle.
