CHAPTER 4
The bright light in the midday sun momentarily blinded me, as I squinted, searching my surroundings. I was standing by the edge of quiet dirt road, before a large abandoned empty square, surrounded by half demolished ancient buildings.
A light breeze picked up, tossing dust in to the air, breaking the otherwise eerie silence.
I quickly fixed my attention back to the three brothers.
And having only just given my own freedom back, I wasn't ready to give it up.I leaped effortlessly over the cage, landing just feet away from them, and whilst the adrenaline still pumped within, I leaned forward surprising one of the Jaxons.
I held him by the throat, pushing him to the ground.
I watched the other two like a hawk, nervously hesitating, and held the hilt of their sword tight.
" Stop , I appeal to you, don't hurt us!" He half croaked. He lay on the ground trying desperately to loosen my handgrip from around his neck. His other hand reaching out to plead for his life.
I turned my head back towards the two brothers, standing arrogantly firm, in front of me, pointing the swords at me.
" Have you forgotten what happened the last time you did that, seriously?" I said, just before
I charged forward towards them, leaving the other brother on the ground gasping for air. I shifted my weight, leaping into a rolled somersault , and right over their heads, landing straight onto my feet. I swiftly span around, grabbing them each by the neck."You have a lot of explaining to do , and only a very short time to do it in!"I said , lifting them off the ground, and pretty nearly choking them to death.
"Look... I beg you, let them live... Please!" Said the brother on the ground, as he messaged his neck.
"Give me a good reason why I shouldn't just finish all three of you right now? especially after what you three put me through!"
"It's just business, nothing personal, we get hired, we buy we sell, that's how we survive." He said , while attempting to sit upright.
I set the two brothers down, allowing them to live, after all I am not a killer... But they didn't need to know that.
A sudden commotion coming from a small alleyway behind me, received my attention .
Two dozen or so armed men coming straight towards us. "Who are they?"I asked
"They don't like intruders in their territory, nor do they like any strangers on this side of the city, either." said one of the brothers
And they don't get any stranger than you!" He said."Well well well". Said the leader of the pack. "What's going on here then, Jaxons? It looks like a shady deal gone wrong from over here. And by the way boys, you should know better than entering my neighborhood without permission!" He exclaimed.
"Grab them boys!" He commanded, "And make sure you leave the horned one to our Jonah! Where is that son of elephant dung anyway?"he said, whispering the last sentence to himself.
A heavy clanging noise was suddenly heard coming from the opposite side of the street. I looked over from behind me to see a large man awkwardly running towards me.
His rackety entrance into the open square, made the Jaxons, and everyone around stop to look. This insanely looking man had
half his torso, from shoulder to foot, covered with metal shiny armour. The sun rays mirrored from above, bouncing off his steel plates, piercing like bolts of lightning straight into our gaze, and briefly blinding us all."Jonah, you old scrap metal, make haste and bring me that creature, now!" Shouted their leader, whilst pointing his finger at me.
The sound of clashing swords, clanging steel on steel, as the vastly outnumbered Jaxon brothers, fought valiantly against the gang members. while the rest of them created a good ten man wall just behind me, weapons drawn, and wisely keeping a safe distance.
