CHAPTER 13
It was close to midnight, and the three of us, Matsu, Morat and myself, were at the harbour. It was an eerie still night, the air was fresh but calm, the only sound was of an owl nearby, prowling the moonlit sky. Yet there was another presence.... a night creature close by, watching...waiting.
"We are being watched!" I said in a low voice to Morat. " Where did Matsu go?" I asked, realising he was absent.
"He's circled around to find our prowling visitor." Whispered Morat, proudly.
"Yes but which one!" I said swiftly turning around and facing the biggest hound dog I've ever seen.
Held firmly by its leash was a huge man, and even he was finding it difficult to steady the powerful beast .
"Easy Bolo, easy boy, you know the rules, no killing unless I say so!"
"Alright, take it easy khalo!" Said a newcomer's voice.
"And I hope you have fed him this time before bringing him out!" Parissa said, stepping out of Matsu's shadow.
"I found this woman, lurking close by!" Said Matsu
"It's ok, Matsu, this is Parissa, and we are acquainted, but I can't say the same about this man." I said gesturing to the hound's handler.
"It is nice to see you are safe, Norak. " She said, acknowledging me with a smile.
"Likewise!" I said returning the smile.
"This is Khalo, my nephew, and brother to Nara." She said, introducing the newcomer.
"And this is Norak from Tavronia, a very far place to the north, I believe."
We both nodded a warm greeting.
"These are my friends Matsu and Morat." I said
"Oh and where are my manners!" Parissa said suddenly, as though she'd forgotten something crucial.
"This is Bolo, a hound found only in the far northern mountains, and unfortunately in danger of extinction." She said, smiling at the beast.
"I remember Bolo well as a cub, a handful no sooner than on his feet. He would bite anyone and anything, nasty little biter!" She said waving her finger at Bolo.
"Except for my nephew here, of course. For some miraculous reason he was fond of Khalo from day one." Parissa said nodding her head towards Khalo....as Bolo growled.
" So naturally I gave him as a gift to him, and to be honest I was getting tired of always sewing the holes in my clothes." She said with a chuckle.... Bolo snorted.
"But, let's get back to business!" She said with a stern look. " Tell me Norak, what news do you bring?"
"Alright." I said, as we sat somewhere quiet. The rest stood on watch, while i told her everything that happened, from the time in the Arena, and up until now.
" So now you know about my brother and his demon half. And by the way, i do hope he was grateful to you for helping him.... the old fool! Not that he didn't deserve a different ending, if you must know.... but hey, he's family."
" Was it the blue stone, which made him turn into that demon?" I asked.
"Yes it was....one of the few very last crystals, she said stroking gently her own crystal, which hang down her neck. "And so we thought until now!"
" And your brother, i take it he's from also before
" Of what you told me about the Master's past." She continued, clearly with concern in her tone .
