CHAPTER 9
It was warm spring day, the midday sun was right above us, perfect day really...
But today It wasn't one of those days , nor would I be looking forward to anything like a simple meal, or a nice quiet stroll in the woods.
For I'm too busy staring at a creature whom I met three times thus far, and never for any other reason other than to hurt me.
"What the frack!" I said, shocked and surprised.
" What are you doing here? Are you out of your mind?"I said quietly, as my blood was sizzling.
" I am hssss.... here to rescue!"... Pet said, hissing quietly like a snake . His reptilian forked tongue flicking in and out tasting the air, sensing my every movement.
"Rescue who?" I asked quickly.
"Brotherrrrr...of witch, hssss...!"
"But he doesn't want to be..." I said but he cut me off before I could finish. He span around facing the clumsy circle of men.
"Wait !" I snapped, half grunting.
But before he could react , I leapfrogged on top of him and had him pinned down.
Using my heavy weight with both knees pressing his back almost flat to the ground, and with one arm in a choke hold tight around his neck.
He was motionless.
"Do not resist me or I'll break your freaking neck!" I said, feeling frustrated and angry.
But if you'll give me a chance, I will help you!" I said speaking into his ear, as I tried to calm myself and think.
But how, I wondered.
I felt him trying desperately to throw me off, but the more he tried the more I tightened my grip.
"Listen to me, for we don't have time to waste! Help us fight the gladiators.....or we all gonna die, including her brother." I said, as a short moment later, I felt his muscles relax.
"So if you I agree , lay down quietly and pretend that I have killed you, and once the gladiators come towards us, then join the fight with us!"
Pet must have decided to go along with the plan, as his breathing suddenly became shallow, relaxing his muscles completely, letting his body lie flat on the ground.
I slowly relaxed the strangle hold, loosening my arm, half expecting a retaliation, and to my suprise, as I stood up, it never came.
Instead he lay very still and was playing the role of being dead very well, which could have easily fooled everyone watching, including myself.
Next, satisfied that he was keeping to our bargain, I quickly turned my attention to what's happening around me.
The distance to my group was a good 100 paces, and the gladiators were already hurrying towards us from roughly 200 paces away.
I run quickly to join Morat, Matsu, and the rest, but not before I retrieved a couple of spears from the dead carcasses.
Now armed with two spears and a sword i arrived just in time to face the onslaught of trained killers.
There were ten of them all together, all seasoned fighters, solid masculine bodies of various size and strength.
The organisers must have clearly thought that the animals would have torn most of us to pieces. Thus leaving the gladiators to finish off the remaining men, and have fun taking care of the animals afterwards.
