It had been a little past mid-night when Suzzie dropped her at the junction leading to her house. After saying her goodbyes Greenery closed the door turning away to start her way down the dirt road to her house. It was so dark with nature up and alive. The trees swayed from the soft wind that cooled down the temperatures. As dark as it was Greenery was not even afraid in the slightest. The biggest threat that had ever happened in this town was a case of chicken theft.
She had called her father to inform him that she had got the job and also that she would be late since they were teaching her everything so she would be to up speed by tomorrow. It had been fun to get buried in work for a while. The head cook was not nice but better than some.
Greenery was too exhausted to even think that she had school in less than seven hours. The dirt road was edged by tall jacaranda trees with street lights here and there lighting up the way.
Only the outside lights were turned on as the house came into view. Greenery picked up her speed feeling so tired from all the walking. Her body was far from strong so she had to take it slow. By the time she got to the house she could barely catch her breath. Beads of sweat collected on her forehead sliding down to her cheeks.
Getting inside Greenery went upstairs, taking a quick shower before setting her alarm and succumbing to sleep.
Morning came too early.
The young girl groaned as the alarm went blowing out so loudly dragging her from her dreamless sleep. Tapping around she found the phone quickly turning the alarm off placing the phone back down. Her eyes flew open as she stretched on the bed trying to ease her muscles as much as she could. Every part of her body ached so painfully none the less she found herself pushing herself up to make her bed before taking a shower.
Walking down stairs there was no proof of life meaning her father had left for work. She walked up the kitchen placing her bag on the counter then making her way to the fridge. She pulled out the breakfast she had left the previous morning, heat it up and ate it.
It was twenty past six by the time she walked out the house with her earphones on listening to some music she transferred, it was just a few because the process had been torturous. As much as she loved iPhones they could be a pain in the ass sometimes. Her feet carried her down the path and in twenty minutes she was crossing the street walking to the bus station where a couple of people were waiting. In ten minutes the bus was there as they filled in paying and moving on.
Greenery chose a seat by the back next to a window, hidden by a chair in front. She did not want the episode from Friday to repeat itself. As much as she was hidden she could hear the whispers so she plugged in her earphones and watched the trees go by. After the longest time she took a deep breath relaxing into her seat sure that no one would attack her. She watched the sun as it shined bright giving love to all that was living, she watched the busy streets; people off to work laughing and waving at each other looking so happy and well.
The bus came into a stop having crossed to the town boundary into Lockwood. This would not be easy, she knew she would face more than she could bare but head high she got off the bus making her way out of the bus. The doors closed behind her as it went on it's way. Greenery fixed her bag then started up the road leading to the school. The roads were busy with cars filling the road. Lockwood was also a close knit community of filthy rich families. It was not a surprise how wide and well lighted their roads were nor the huge houses. The town itself was beautiful with tall glass buildings, large malls and more.
Greenery was barely breathing when she finished the steep road with the humongous school gate in sight which was closed shut. She walked up, a guard coming out. She produced her school ID very thankful that she had tucked it in her pocket on Friday or she would have also left it on the floor that day.
The male guard opened the small gate for her and she made her way in walking on the paved floor. There were a few people outside but as soon as she stepped in the building it was packed full, noise so deafening she cringed. The hall was packed with all colours visible from orange maxi dresses to sweet pink short-shorts.
Never had Greenery been so lost. She had left all her books along with her map on the ground Friday and now she did not have a clue which class to attend or where to go. An idea popped up and she pulled her phone from her pocket. The Wi-Fi was strong so she logged in it using her ID and newly created password. Logging into the school website she logged in her portal retrieving her timetable from her school email. After that she looked for location on the website which showed the town map along with the school map which had less details but still usable.
The bell rang loudly as everyone went filling in their classes. Following the map she left that building walking around to another building just like the last. She looked at the doors looking for class B31 and luckily it was the second door on the second floor so she filled in luckily finding the teacher not present yet.
The class was almost full really. The backseat was fully packed with the school A list's he proposed. This was the senior year so all of them knew each other and she was just the odd one out. Greenery took a seat at the front by the door. There was an empty seat beside her and she was grateful for that.
After ten minutes everyone had figured out who she was with the teacher still a no show. The students now were huddled into two groups watching a video of her on YouTube taken by her ' so called friends' on that day which ruined her life forever. She could hear the screaming and shouting from where she sat and it took everything in her to will the tears in. All the students were laughing making sure she heard. Not being able to take it anymore Greenery took out her earphones listening to whatever was playing while she continued reading through the website. After browsing around she made a discovery that the school also had a college which according to the map was in this compound then both divided by a park, tennis court, netball/basketball/ volleyball court and a football field. Apparently the college was one of the prestige in the country where only the super-rich could attend as it cost so much Greenery could not even read the figures.
The bell suddenly rang as she looked at the map again looking for an A27 class which apparently was in this building where it seemed only the seniors used. She took the elevator which was parked down to the first floor where she found her class walking in and taking the front seat by the door. The news about her had spread as a few students stood before her laughing and pointing fingers.
"So the psycho is here, you just can't stay away from him can you?" The girls asked poking her.
Unluckily for her the teacher did not show either, by the time the bell rang her screen guard was shuttered with her phone being thrown against the wall by the current school football captain. She got out of the class rattled but the worst had not come because at lunch they all made a circle while the queen B poked her, pushing her to the floor while everyone cheered. After the blonde everyone said their piece, all kinds of insults.
Greenery stood up dusting herself and heading to the toilet as the bell rang signalling the end of lunch. She walked up to the luxurious toilets with marble counter tops. She got in a stall seating there while weeping her heart out. Teenagers could be so mean and she had seen the worst kind of them today. At that moment killing herself seemed like the only option she had, it seemed like the best at the moment. She could not imagine going through that again. She could tell herself she had gone immune all she wanted but she was not, as much pain as she went through she could still not be immune to the cruelty of the world.
Greenery tried to imagine what she would have done to cause her such great pain. She seemed to be getting the worst of it. The brunette cried her heart out, her head throbbing to the point where dots appeared. Laying her head by the wall she slowly drifted out of consciousness.
A loud bell sound jolted her from her slumber. The throbbing head was the first to make itself known. Standing up it seemed like the room was spinning so she held on to the wall until everything went steady. She looked at her phone finding relief as it turned on the broken screen showing the black bitten apple on the white canvas. She pulled on her bag making her way out to the sinks where she washed her pale face with red swollen eyes.
Greenery did not want to show them how much they had made her cry, she did not want them to see how they had hurt her but there was no way to cover up her red swollen eyes. Walking out, the hall was packed to no end. She made her way to the door knowing that school was done for the day. Nothing had been done since the staff had held a meeting which had been good and bad for her looking at how she did not have any of her books while badly because she had been attacked all throughout the day.
It was half past four and she had thirty minutes to get to the restaurant. Wasting no time she ran past the gate and down the road. In ten minutes she had made her way to the bus station catching the bus as it was about to leave. Hopping on she made her way to the back where she found a seat. Taking a deep breath she tried to calm her heart but it went beating wildly with no way of her stopping it besides calming down. Sweat trickled down her forehead. Taking out her tissue she wiped it away, opening the window, welcoming the cool air letting it wash over her.
Twenty minutes tops she was getting off the bus making her way through the town as quick as she could. The diner was packed when she got there, waiters rushing around. As fast as she could she made her way to the change room to put on her hair net, apron after taking off her jacket. When she got into the kitchen the chef was flying all around the place, dishes over pouring in the sink, floor covered in fallen pills along with fallen bits of chopped cabbage. Getting there she took the broom sweeping the floor discarding the trash then she washed the dishes after to which the chef told her to put some fries on followed by the burgers and rolls. She did as told in fifteen minutes ringing the bell for five double cheese burgers along with fries.
By seven o'clock everyone was running around, the diner was fully packed some customers eating at the bar. The pasta washed in creamy and spicy sauce was finally plated in the plain white bowls. Greenery placed them on the counter ringing the bell.
"Three pasta in creamy and spicy mushroom sauce." The waiter came taking all three of them at once while Greenery went passing by the Head chef who was making some raspberry sauce for her nicely grilled fish and steak.
Another receipt pulled out from the machine, Greenery went to it pulling it out ' 1x chicken chow-mein'. Sticking it on the counter she went pouring some oil on her pan making some chicken chow-mein.
