I can't continue doing this with you, thank you so much for all that you have done for me even before I was locked up. You are so kind and sweet yet I do not seem to be in the right head space for this friendship, if I may call it that. My feelings for you had never been a secret from you and I am sorry for all the pain I had caused. Thank you for everything again. I wish you all the best in life.
The text was the only thing that ran through her head as she typed her assignment , multi-tasking had always been one of her best gifts but as of now even that seemed to fail her. Her mind was not in the right head space, her chest ached from holding all the feelings in with having to clear her throat now and again to just stop herself from crying. Clearing her throat again she shook her head before reading the last paragraph she wrote finding it heavy with mistakes.
The young girl pushed her chair back standing up from her work desk and stretching her legs from bending for so long. How long had it been, five hours and counting since she had started her assignment only being half way through now. Her body had badly betrayed her, sending her in a deep slumber where she woke up as the sun kissed the horizon goodbye with the house as quiet and dark.
Her feet carried her down the stairs, the patter the only thing echoing off the cream walls, her flashlight being the only source of light to the room. The soft snores could be heard from the other room making her heart less frightened knowing that there was someone else in the dark house. She made her way down, switching the lights on with eyes scanning every corner making sure there were no predators waiting to pounce on her.
She made her way to the kitchen, hunger suddenly making its self-known after starving herself for the whole day. It was like a grey cloud hanging over her, dampening her mood but why else would she be happy. Her life was like a black hole, everything good being sucked away. She closed her eyes taking a deep breath, a tear finally escaping and sliding down her cheek. She shook her head hating herself for showing such weakness. She was stronger than this, she swore to never cry again and yet here she was shedding a tear or two. Life had been unkind and it was those moments where she wanted to just take a knife and slit her wrists, that seemed better than this. The pain was getting too much, her heart could not take anymore.
Greenery read the text she had sent three hours earlier. In a matter of seconds he had called concerned of her wellbeing. She could barely speak as tears had come falling down with her heart breaking from what she had said. It was hard to walk away but it was better than the alter. She would always love him but she was no good for him. After assuring him that she was physically okay and mentally fighting with her heart and head he had understood letting her know that anytime she needed him he would be there for her in a matter of seconds.
Greenery could not stop replaying the conversation over and over again in her head as she wept in her pillow. This was not right, she had felt like her sanity was slipping away bit by bit as she lay there.
Obsession was one thing she would not wish on even her worst enemy. It was like your personal hell where without seeing a single person you felt like your sanity was slipping, you could feel the bolts holding your mind down rattling, setting themselves free. Suddenly a person became as important as the air you breath, suddenly all that filled your thoughts was his voice, his face, and the fact that it had all started as puberty hit, took it all to another level leaving the line between wrong and right blurred.
Greenery shook her head trying to see it right as she took the last bite of her sandwich before going to the sink washing the plate and walking back to her room where she made sure to lock the door, walking to her desk the lamp on her study table the only source of light making the room dim. She sat on the chair, diving into the world where everyone took what they wanted, where women had no voices, treated no more than the help. The story was tragic, feeling well with her mood as she dug in researching and writing, pouring all her emotions into her work, working tirelessly the light from the laptop making her eyes itch her head aching with her watery eyes not being able to take it anymore but there was no time to sleep, there was no time to rest as the assignment was due before the sun made its presence known again. The sound of the keyboard being violently attacked filled the room, fingers moving effortlessly across the keyboard, words filling the screen until all the pages were filled as she clicked ' manage references', seeing them as they filled a whole page. The assignment left her to only edit making everything perfect before she logged in the portal, submitting the assignment and sighing when it was sent, looking at the clock realizing it was four in the morning leaving nothing else but to sleep but nothing good was waiting for her in her dreams. She did not want to close her eyes, did not want to see what waited for her on the other side, to go through the pain again as if it was happening at that point.
She stood up, walking to the bed knowing that to be able to go through the next day she should at least get four hours of sleep. Sleep claimed her, dragging her to the hole where a man stood with a taser and a whip ready to take what he wanted.
The sun rose up the horizon, its thick orange rays blessing the land shining bright over the earth giving life to all that was living. The rays pierced through her curtains falling on her face as she slept facing down, body violently shaking beads of sweat dripping off her forehead.
"No,""No,"
"No,"
The words escaped her mouth, pleas leaving her lower lip to tremble, hands in fists, her body shaking harder and harder with each second that passed, shaking so bad she jolted up of bad heaving era taking in the whole room tears streaming down her face arms wrapped around her frail shaking body as if they could protect her, as if they would shield her from the evil world. The alarm went off making her jump, fingers quickly fumbling to switch off the alarm. The day had started so bright and vibrant yet for Greenery there was nothing good about it. She could not see the bright rays, she could not smell the flowers and hear the vibrant sounds of nature because to her the world was black and white. There was no color, there was no warmth. It was just her against the world.
Her feet meet the ground the cold going unnoticed by her, why should she her whole body was drenched in sweat? She made her way to the bathroom taking a shower knowing that she had a long walk to school. After the shower she went back pulling up a pair of black jeans, a vest and a black Adidas sweater, pulling on some Adidas sneakers then grabbing her bag and walking down the stairs. The house was deserted as always, her father probably having left for work already. She walked into the kitchen, opening the cabinets taking out the box of cereal, a bowl and then opened the fridge taking out the milk and pouring it into the bowl with the cereal then taking a seat to eat. As much as it was warm outside yet the house was still cold. The cold from the weekend still trapped making the house a freezing hell.
After washing the bowl she took her black bag that would definitely have a lot of fluffy pink this hanging from all the zips but that was not her anymore. Her bag was as plain as the day it was bought. She walked out of the door, eyes looking all around trying to make sure that no one hid over the bushes ready to take her down. She locked the door, pulling it to make sure it was surely locked then turned around just as a sound of an engine had her eyes snap towards the door ready to run back to the house and lock herself if it was anyone threatening. She stood clenching the bag as if her life depended on it, waiting to see as the car came full speed making her sigh relief having her nearly laugh out loud her heart thudding as if fighting for escape.
Greenery took a step, walking to the gate opening it only to close it locking it behind her and making her way towards the black shiny ranger 4x4. The music playing being heard as she were standing a few miles away. She walked down the muddy dirt road approaching the car seeing the driver sitting down his phone in hand.
The window rolled down with her standing staring at Zeb while he finished typing then turned to her.
"Morning Zeb," She said confused really on why he was here.
"Morning," he replied seeming to be in a mood as always.
"What are you doing here?" Greenery asked perplexed really. She did not have time for this, she had a long walk then a long ride on the bus followed by another long walk which just had her sigh really her body already tired from being overworked and not getting much sleep.
"I am here to take you to school, since you can't see Bash he placed me on babysitting duty." He spat the words and you could see how unhappy he was about all this.
"Well you can feel free to tell Bash that I don't need a babysitter." She replied her own anger having her turn and start on her way to the bus station leaving Zeb to turn the car around, following her.
"He is concerned and wants to make sure no one else tries to attack you." Zeb said as she ignored him walking faster yet her heart could not stop drumming. Bash cared about her, it was all that her mind had picked up and her palms were suddenly sweaty not being able to help it.
"I am already here, come on, you are already late." He said as I turned looking at him while he drove the car next to me trying to slow it to my pace. He was already here and looking at the time she would be late even she made the long way to school on her own.
"Okay, but tell Bash that I know he is trying to be nice and I appreciate that but I can take care of myself." She said back to Zeb as she walked around the car sliding in and closing the door only to buckle her belt, Zeb on his phone typing something then hitting the gas, the car coming to life.
