~~~(Mad Hatter by Melanie Martinez)~~~
   Case takes a deep breath, staring at himself in the backstage mirror of the club. He's wearing firefighter pants with suspenders strapped over his bare shoulders and his red helmet is loose on his head. He turns after hearing his boss call him to the stage. Case comes out from behind the curtains and moves his hips to the music in the club. Both guys and girls cheer from the floor as they toss money up at him when he loosens his suspenders. He doesn't know how good or how dumb he looks at this but people are clearly enjoying him.
   Case crosses the stage as a few more dancers appear behind him, all of them doing the same moves. They wiggle their hips and hump the air before taking off their suspenders and tossing it to their audience. Case grins as he keeps dancing, the bright lights hanging from the ceiling nearly blinding him. He takes center stage, slowly pulling his pants down to his ankles. The crowd goes wild all over again when they see Case in his compression shorts. The guys turn around and shake their perfectly round butts before they drop to the floor, crawling up to the guys screaming for them off the stage. Just as Case feels a twinge of guilt for doing this with his body, he can't help but smile a little when someone slides a twenty into his waistband.
   "I'm going to get us some more popcorn." Emerson tells Harrow that same evening as the two of them are lounged on the couch in Emerson's living room.
   "I'll be here." Harrow says, her eyes glued to the Netflix documentary on the TV in front of them. Emerson gets up and leaves, Harrow fishing through the bowl that used to be filled with popcorn. She hears Emerson's phone vibrate from the coffee table and Harrow glances at it, trying her best not to get too curious. Ever since Emerson lied about having a girlfriend, Harrow has been trying her best to bring herself to trust him but it's a little harder than she thought. If he lied to her that long, what makes her think he won't do it again? Harrow leans forward, noticing the text from Tatiana on the screen: I had fun with you last night.
   Harrow shakes her head in disbelief, getting up from the couch and dumping the popcorn crumbs onto the couch for Emerson to come back to. She should've known. Instead of saying goodbye, Harrow once again ditches Emerson and slams the front door behind her.
~~~(END SONG)~~~

   On Monday, Kai sits in Mrs. Brown's office, his messenger bag on his lap and his eyes glued to the carpeted floor while the principal is seated behind her big organized desk. Kai tried his best to be strong about the DeVitis thing but he couldn't bring himself to be in the same room as him again. Kai sometimes even skips his newspaper class and hides in the bathroom but even then he can't stand to be in the same building as him. DeVitis is a monster and he shouldn't be working at Seaview High School.
   "Kai, you came to me, remember?" Mrs. Brown breaks the silence. The two of them haven't said anything since Kai sat himself down here about five minutes ago.
   "Yes." Kai answers.
   "So what brings you into my office?" Mrs. Brown questions, actually sounding concerned.
   Kai wasn't sure if he wanted to come in here and tell Mrs. Brown the truth about what happened last year. He heard that she's quite the bitch and hands out suspensions like it's her job. But, maybe she's not as bad as everyone makes her out to seem. "There's something that I want to tell you about Mr. DeVitis."
   "Okay." Mrs. Brown waits for him to go on.
   Kai swallows, not daring to look up from the floor. "He uh, did stuff to me last year."
   "What kind of stuff?" Mrs. Brown asks.
   Kai bites the inside of his cheek. How does he tell an adult that he was raped? He had no problem telling Cambridge this at the end of last year but for some reason, it's a different story telling an adult- especially one like Brown. "Inappropriate stuff."
   "Kai." Mrs. Brown says and Kai looks at her. "This a serious accusation."
   "I know." Kai quickly nods his head. "That's why I'm telling you."
   "Okay, what did he do, exactly?" Mrs. Brown pulls her big yellow notepad closer to her and clicks her pen up.
   "He raped me." Kai's voice cracks. Even now it still gives him shivers. "Here, at the school."
   Mrs. Brown's eyes widen as she starts scribbling down what Kai is saying. "Did you tell anyone else about this?"
   "My friend Cambridge." Kai nods his head. "My parents and my sister know too."
   Mrs. Brown pauses from writing. "You do realize that with just an accusation, Mr. DeVitis will immediately be suspended, even if he didn't do it?"
   "Why are you telling me this?" Kai snaps. "I already know all this."
   "Okay, just making sure." Mrs. Brown says calmly as she finishes writing. "We're going to have to call a meeting. Us, your parents, and Mr. DeVitis."
   "Why?" Kai asks, confused. The last thing he wants to do is be in a room with DeVitis. Even though his parents will be there with him, the thought still makes him cringe. "I just told you he raped me, what else is there to talk about?"
   "It's mandatory." Mrs. Brown looks at him seriously. "But don't worry. He won't last here."
   Kai nods his head, holding onto Mrs. Brown's words with everything he has.
