~~~(Sinner Like You by Parson James)~~~
Case's eyes spring open, his head immediately aching. He stares up at the white ceiling above him, feeling dizzy. He blinks twice before sitting up on the floor of a living room in some apartment downtown. Empty shot glasses are sprawled on the coffee table next to him and the plasma TV mounted on the wall plays reruns of Friends. He rubs his eyes awake, feeling last night's alcohol swirling around in his stomach.
"Up already?" Case's new friend Morty comes into the living room from the tiny kitchen towards the back of the apartment. The two of them had met when Case was still working at Pump and now that he doesn't work ANYWHERE, Case has all this time to party with some new friends. Sean and Becky made him quit the country club since they're now handling all the money with their band.
"You don't look hungover." Case looks Morty up and down. Morty has dark skin, hazel eyes, big lips, and an oval shaped head. The two of them had stayed out until four in the morning dancing at the club with endless drinks. Case doesn't even remember half of last night. It's all a blur, the entire thing. All he knows is that alcohol made an impact.
"That's because I took this." He holds up a bottle of Skinny Girl, ANOTHER alcoholic drink. "The best way to cure a hangover is to drink one of these."
"I don't think I can handle anymore." Case gets to his feet, almost stumbling over. Maybe he's still a little drink from last night.
"You sure?" Morty holds the bottle out to him. "It's not too strong."
"I just need a bathroom." Case covers his mouth as he runs down the hall and to the bathroom, barely making it to the toilet.Israel heads up the few stairs into the police department that same morning, Harrow and Rhyannon on either side of him. He's feeling a little jittery about being here to turn Emerson into the police for burning down 8 Count Dance Studio but is excited to finally get the truth revealed. He knows that he'd be able to do this whole thing on his own but having his brother and Harrow by his side makes things a little more bearable.
"Israel Sepulveda." The woman behind the front counter greets Israel when the three of them walk in. "What a pleasure seeing you again."
"I'm not the one who burned down the studio." Israel approaches the counter.
"Emerson Crawford did." Rhyannon pipes up.
"He even admitted it to me." Harrow joins.
Israel nods in agreement, wondering what kind of madness they're about to open up. "I saw him do it."That same day at school, Kai sits at his lunch table with Cambridge, both of them diving into their schoolwork. Kai glances up at someone heading towards their table and does a double take when he realizes it's Emlyn. They haven't spoken since Kai went to Emlyn's house and ended things between them. They didn't stop things on a bad note though. Dating each other right now just isn't the right time.
"Emlyn, hi." Kai asks when Emlyn comes up to the table. He glances at Cambridge and then back up at Emlyn. "Uh, what are you up to?"
"I've been thinking about how things ended with us." Emlyn begins, looking somewhat nervous.
"I don't think this is the right place to be talking about that." Kai glances at the occupied tables around them.
"I think this is the perfect place to talk about it." Emlyn stands up on the empty chair next to Cambridge.
"What the hell?" Cambridge looks up at Emlyn, moving his books away from him.
"What are you doing?" Kai stifles a laugh.
"Kai Evans, I like you." Emlyn tells him with a bright smile on his face as people from tables near them look up at him to watch. Other people focus their eyes on Kai's reaction. "As more than a friend. I want to take you out to dinner and hold your hand at the movies. It's a little cliche for the football player to be hiding in the closet anyways. And I like you, a lot. So that makes me gay." He looks around at everyone surrounding them. "Yes, Seaview High school. I'm gay. Gay for Kai Evans."
Kai laughs as the whole cafeteria laughs and cheers for them. Emlyn gets down off the chair after Kai tugs on his hand. "You're a little bit crazy."
"I'm that too." Emlyn nods in agreement before the two of them lock lips in front of everyone watching.
