Season 2, Episode 17: Hold My Hand

   Anna lies awake in a queen sized bed next to Tatiana on Thursday morning. Her arm is on under her head as she stares up at the spinning fan over the bed. Anna had nowhere else to go after her mom kicked her out of the house. Her dad is still across the country and Tatiana was her next best thing. She didn't want to burden Brooklyn since she's preparing for her kidney surgery so here she is. Tatiana didn't have a problem with letting her crash here- probably because she likes her as something more than just a friend.
   "Sleep well?" Tatiana sits up next to her.
   Anna slowly nods as if she just woke up. She swings her legs over the edge of the bed and stares at her toes. Her fight with her mom keeps playing back in her head and as much as she hates the way things ended between them, there's not much she can do about it. Her mom will probably never see the way Anna sees them- which is a little disappointing. "Want to grab something to eat?"
   "I'll go pop some waffles into the toaster." Tatiana gets up and ventures out of the bedroom.
   Anna remains seated on the bed, thinking of Eli and Bethany. Where do they think she is? What do they think happened between Anna and their mom? Without a whole lot of answers, Anna gets up to get ready for the day, unable to help herself from thinking of her mom.

   Brooklyn waits in her small hospital bed, picking at the loose threads on the blanket that covers her legs. She's in pre op right now, wondering how this surgery will go. She doesn't want to be afraid but she can't help but wonder if something horrible is going to happen. Lincoln told her that it's possible for people to die during this procedure. What if she's one of those people?
   "It'll be over in no time." Mrs. Sabin stands by Brooklyn's bed. "Don't worry too much."
   "They're going to open me up." Brooklyn states the obvious. "They're going to shove clamps and sutures inside of my body. What's there to worry about?"
   "You'll be under the medicine." Mr. Sabin reminds her from next to his wife. "It's just like falling asleep."
   "Alright, we're ready." Dr. Morrison comes into the room as a few interns break the bed from the wall and begin pushing her down the hallway and towards the operating room.
   "Fancy seeing you here." Lincoln's voice rings out from his own bed that races next to her down the hall. He's wearing his own blue cap to keep his hair out of the way and his hospital gown pronounces his muscular arms.
   "You too." Brooklyn tries smiling but she just feels sick to her stomach.
   "You okay?" Lincoln sounds concerned.
   "Never better." Brooklyn lies, breathing slowly out her nose.
   "I'll see you when you get out." Lincoln reaches across to her and grabs her hand. Brooklyn holds his and keeps her eyes straight ahead, praying to God this goes as planned.

   Kai finds Emlyn coming out of his physics class that same day at school. The two of them have been great, now that they can be seen together as an actual couple. People are actually voting for them to be cutest couple for yearbook and Kai is all for it. He wouldn't mind getting a little something more out of this. Being with Emlyn has been pretty awesome.
   "How was class?" Kai asks his boyfriend as they start down the hallway together.
   "Flunked my test." Emlyn shrugs both shoulders. "How was yours?"
   "Aced my paper." Kai laughs, playfully running into him with his shoulder. He doesn't want this relationship to move too quickly but Kai has been thinking about their parents a lot. He really wants to know more about Emlyn's family- other than the fact that Emerson will be facing the charges of burning down a dance studio. What's with Kai and Harrow getting themselves mixed up with the same family at the same time? "So when do I get to meet the famous Mr. and Mrs. Crawford?"
   "You want to meet my parents?" Emlyn asks and Kai nods his head. "And I thought you wouldn't be able to handle MY crazy."
   "They're worse?" Kai jokes when they arrive at Emlyn's locker.
   "They just have a lot going on with Emerson right now." Emlyn says back, spinning the combo to his locker. "Maybe now wouldn't be the best time for that."
   Kai searches Emlyn's face. Why does he look so weird? He fully understands that Emlyn's family is going through a lot right now but is there something else to the equation? Kai doesn't want to push anything but he isn't sure if what Emlyn is saying is true or not. "Is that all?"
   Emlyn sighs after looking at him in the face. "No, that's not all."
   "Then what is it?" Kai folds his arms over his chest, wondering if they know that he's the one who used to have a thing with Aaron Gilmore.
   "It's your sister." Emlyn explains. "They kind of hate her right now for sending my brother to jail."
   Kai doesn't say anything. He almost forgot that Harrow is behind Emerson getting arrested. How can Mr. and Mrs. Crawford not like Kai though? He didn't have anything to do with that entire situation. He doesn't even know the full story. "Right, understandable." Kai plays along as if this makes sense.
   "I'm sorry." Emlyn tells him seriously. "Maybe after the trial or whatever, things will calm down."
   "Hopefully." Kai mumbles, suddenly annoyed with Harrow for throwing a wrench into things with Emlyn.
