T H I R T Y-O N E 《Old friend》

"JaeSung,come on in!"JaeSung smiled at the boy and stepped into the apartment.

She looked at her surroundings nervously as a cup was presented to her.Her friend nodded,holding out the cup for her.JaeSung grabbed it and took a sip,the familiar taste of soju and beer greeting her.

Her face scrunched up as she finished the drink.Her friend,Holly smiled,pulling the idol to one of the couches that were preoccupied and forcing the girl to squeeze in between a girl and a guy.

JaeSung scooted closer to the girl after she had almost sat on the guy's lap, and shot Holly a look.Holly only smiled as she stood up to answer the door.

"REN!"Holly yelled,jumping on the male.Ren laughed and gave her a hug before turning to look around the room.He spotted JaeSung forcibly smiling and drinking as the guy next to her continued to fill her cup.

He shook his head as he lightly pushed Holly away.Holly frowned before shrugging and going back to the group,oblivious to what was happening to JaeSung.

"Alright,move over."Ren said,motioning the guy over.The guy looked at Ren with an annoyed look but quickly moved over when he saw the look in Ren's eyes.

He sat down and put his arm behind JaeSung as she went to take another sip.He quickly grabbed it and finished it causing JaeSung to look over.

"Ren!"She shouted in surprise,her cheeks slightly flushed and her eyes glazed over.Ren shook his head,snatching a water bottle from the coffee table and forcing her to drink it.

"What are you doing drinking?"He asked and JaeSung rolled her eyes.Her and Ren go way back a few years to when she was in China.He lived in the same apartment complex as she did,but the two didn't formally meet until a month before she left.

They were 15 and Ren had come back from school way later than JaeSung had.She had been sitting on the stairs that lead to the second floor when he came in stumbling before collapsing next to her.

Despite being slightly under the influence,JaeSung could remember their conversation vividly.

"So what was it today?"JaeSung asked,looking up from her notebook.Ren looked at her through his eyelashes before raising an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?"He asked and JaeSung turned her body to him.

"Well,school ended seven hours ago,if you had detention you would've been here by four,if you had cram school you would've been here at 8,its 9."JaeSung said and Ren chuckled,impressed that the small Korean girl that sat quietly in the back of the classroom had memorized the schedule.

"You do know who I am right?"He asked and JaeSung rolled her eyes.

"Xiao Ren,you live two doors down with your dad and two sisters.What about me?Do you know me?

"Min JaeSung,future idol who came on an academic scholarship."

From that day on,the two were inseparable until JaeSung left.Then a few weeks after she debuted Ren reached out to congratulate her.Later on,Ren revealed that he was in Korea because of his father's job.

Communication between the two became sparse as JaeSung became an idol and Ren was training to take over his dad's company.

Of course the phone conversations were better but soon communication ceased and the two only saw each other on tv.

"Ready to go home?"Ren asked and JaeSung nodded.Ren got up and walked towards Manny,who was the party holder. 

"I'm gonna take JaeSung home but I'll see if I can swing by later."Ren said and Manny nodded,hugging the guy goodbye.Ren went around saying goodbye before getting to Jaesung who only smiled at him.

Holly quickly came over and hugged JaeSung goodbye,promising to spend a night with her some day before hugging Ren goodbye.

The two exited the apartment and Ren made sure JaeSung was able to walk properly.
She hooked her arm through his and leaned against him as her sight blurred slightly.

They reached Ren's car and he made sure she was buckled in before going around the car and getting in.

"So,what are your plans for break?"Ren asked and JaeSung shrugged. 

"A few shops opened while I was on tour so Holly offered to show them to me."JaeSung said,"There's also a few orphanages I've been meaning to check."

Ren looked at her with a raised eyebrow."Why orphanages?"

"There was this one orphanage that I visited back in 2016,and whenever I had the chance I would visit.It's been a year or so since I last went and I miss seeing the kids."

"Did you donate a lot?"

"Yeah,I started doing automatic donations when I was given my card."She said as they pulled up to a park.

"Let's just talk."Ren said and JaeSung nodded.

The two spent the whole night talking,reminiscing their days in China.

Then they talked about relationships and how they worked out before they moved back on to the orphanage.

"There's one that I helped out back in '17,the kids were absolute sweethearts but the older kids were skeptical about us helping. Unfortunately,we had to pull help after the director got caught in a scandal."Ren said,picking at the steering wheel.

"I remember hearing that."JaeSung said,remembering how she saw it on the news.The director had been caught harassing the younger kids and every company that had helped out,pulled out and the orphanage had started to struggle.

"Of course I was pissed and made sure that the new director was competent,and if any of the kids had a complaint I would go down personally to see what it was."Ren turned to look at JaeSung and she smiled.

"I'll drop by some time."She said and he nodded."Now,take me home because my brother has been blowing up my phone for the last twenty minutes."

Ren laughed and put the car in drive."How is your brother,or brothers?"

"They're fine,enjoying life one sunrise at a time."

The two were quiet as Ren dropped JaeSung off at her apartment and didn't leave until JaeSung walked in.

Sung hoon greeted sleepily,the computer in front of him on and Max curled up by his side.

She smiled at the two before going to her room,stripping off of her clothes and slipping into comfortable clothes.
