Call off my heart no escaping ○

"I'm so sorry" he said and the agent nodded. "I suppose it's going to be fine. He's strong, he's a fighter" she said and he nodded. "I'll excuse myself then" he said and left the room. It's been a month since the agent met their mother and it's been more than that since the guard was unconscious. His sister has already came back but he hasn't.

He was still peaceful as ever, laying down on the bed and breathing through an oxygen mask. It was heartbreaking for the agent to see the guard in such a state when he used to be beaming with energy and order.

It just wasn't him at all. It was as if the man laying down on the bed, connected to several tubes wasn't him. No, this wasn't the man she knew, the man she fell in love with. She fell for the cold, strong man; not this helpless, lifeless one.

But she knew better than to just forget about him at his worst. He took a bullet for her, it was supposed to be her in his position at the moment but no, he had to take the sacrifice to save her. She cried herself to sleep all night, waiting for his return in her arms. Maybe, just maybe if she had wished hard enough he would magically appear in front of her, wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes and telling her that everything is fine now that he's there.

But that was all just a fantasy. That couldn't happen at all and she knew it, she just couldn't accept the fact that he took a bullet for her, put his life at risk to save her. She just wanted to shout at him for being so foolish to save a life such as hers.

She was devastated that he had to be in this state, suffering and fighting for his life while she couldn't do anything at all to help. She felt very, very useless and a burden to him honestly. Although his sister had reassured her that he would be happy to take that bullet for her, she couldn't help but think of the possibilities that could happen if she was the one shot.

He would still be in work, protecting the kingdom with all his might, maybe celebrating their success in taking M down as well. It was all just so overwhelming for her to think that he would be in such a happy state if she was the one shot instead of him, which should be that way.

"Hey, don't worry about him. Just like you said, he'll be fine. He's a strong one, you know that" his sister suddenly came in and said. She sighed and shook her head. "I know that but you know how I feel. I failed to protect him when all of this should be a mission of mine in the first place. I brought trouble to the palace and got the head guard take a bullet for me. How am I supposed to not let the guilt eat me alive?" she said as tears started to flow down her cheeks.

His sister smiled and wiped her tears before cupping her cheeks in her hands. "I don't know how he said he fell for your cold, elegant self when you're this emotional wreck. Heck, I don't even know what he feels all the time. But I'll tell you this, he would hate to see you grieve for him when he's not even dead" she said.

The agent looked up at her with teary eyes and broke into a smile for the first time in a while. "What is it now?" she said grinning. "It's just that, my lover's sister is an influencer and I can see that your words got through my head" she said and the older chuckled. "Thank you, jie. Believe me when I say that I doubted him for a moment but you made me believe in him again. Thank you" she said.

"It's my duty as a sister to have her brother be trusted by his lover, no?" she said and the agent nodded, going out of the room to eat.

"Hey, baby" she softly said as she enters the room of the guard, closing the door softly as she walked over towards his bed. "You might know that there's been a lot on my mind lately. You know, you didn't have to take that bullet for me that day, I'm fine with having to deal with the shot" she chuckled sadly.

"But anyways, I'm thankful you did it, although it wasn't necessary. I just feel like the guilt is swallowing me whole, the fear of losing you forever haunting me in my sleep, the constant reminder that I was the reason behind this suffering of yours" she looked down to her lap as she sat on the chair next to the bed.

I don't know why you chose to protect a woman like me, a cold, heartless woman who kills out of obligation for herself when you could be out there living the life of your dreams. I just- I feel like all I bring wherever I go is just pain and agony to those closest to me. I know I love you but I would stay away from you just to keep you safe" she said, a stray tear rolling down her cheek.

"I miss you baby, I really do" she said. She looked at his peaceful face for a moment when she saw a tear roll down his cheek as well. She gasped in shock when he slowly fluttered his eyes open and saw her and immediately burst into tears. She got up and hugged him.

Although he couldn't hug her back as he was still too weak to do so, he leaned into her touch and let his tears fall from his eyes and wet her shirt. They couldn't describe the emotions they were feeling at the moment, sheer happiness rushing through their minds, content filling their hearts.

"Missed you too baby, so so much"
