Takes place around S3, ep 9 (just pretend they've still got the printing press)
"THAT'S absolutely ridiculous!" Anne said, stopping writing and looked up at none other than Gilbert Blythe.
They were at a meeting for the newspaper and Gilbert had just suggested something that had deeply upset Anne. She was about to get into in, telling him about social equality and would probably involve some screaming at him, but before she could:
"Alright boys and girls, that's it for today. See you all back here soon." Mrs. Stacey said dismissing the group. Anne quickly stood up, gathering her belongings and stormed out of the schoolhouse.
But Gilbert wasn't done with their conversation yet. He also quickly gathered his things and followed Anne out of the school. He jogged to catch up with her quickly receding form through the woods.
Anne had just planned to go fume off in the woods somewhere before going home. She did not, however, want to talk to the boy she knew was following her down the path.
"Go away Gilbert!" Anne called without looking back at him.
"No!" He called back, nearly catching up to her. "We need to talk about this!"
"There's nothing to talk about! I believe we should publish that article about the Mi'kmaq people in the school and send a letter to The Globe and you don't care and think we shouldn't. I get it." Anne said turning so she was facing Gilbert.
"That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying we should send a letter to The Globe first and then wait to publish our article."
"If we don't write about it soon, it'll loose relevance and then no one will care!"
"I get that, but you have to be careful and talk about it with everybody. We don't want what happened before the happen again."
Anne scowled. "I thought we were over that." She said.
"We are, but it would be bad if it happened again."
Anne rolled her eyes and turned on her heel, and as she did a loud boom of thunder went across the sky. Both Anne and Gilbert jumped a little. They had been so caught up in their fight they hadn't noticed that the sky had turned darker and it had slowly started to rain.
"I get that you want to publish that article, Anne, but you have to be careful how you do it." Gilbert said.
The rain started falling heavier. "You weren't there." Anne said turning back to face Gilbert. "You didn't see how badly her parents wanted her back and how they wouldn't let Ka'kwet go. You didn't see how horrible that place looked it-wasn't a school it was a jail. And if we don't write about it soon, it'll only get worse."
The rain was pouring down around them now. A bolt of lightning across the sky.
"I promise that we'll get them out but it's a small town that doesn't like change. We have to remember that and make sure we write this the right way." Gilbert said, raising his voice to talk above the wind.
Anne knew he was right, but she didn't want him to be. She also wasn't one to back down from an argument when she was wrong, but she couldn't think of anything else to add, plus the rain was coming down harder and the wind was very strong.
As Anne turned to head back to Green Gables, the wind nearly swept her off her feet. She felt Gilbert catch her arm to keep her from falling over.
"My house is closer. If you try to get to Green Gables in this weather you'll never make it." He said.
"Fine. I'll go to your house only because it's raining so hard and I want to see Delly, but don't think I'm done with this conversation!"
The pair rain off towards Gilbert's house hurrying through the rain. They reached his house in record speed and ran in through the kitchen door.
"Mr. Blythe!" Bash's mother said as the two entered the warm house. "Are you alright?"
"F-f-fine." Gilbert said through chattering teeth.
Anne hadn't realized how cold she was until she felt the fire.
"Anne, Gilbert, you two really got caught in the rain." Bash said entering the kitchen holding Delly.
"I'll make some tea and fetch some blankets." Hazel said putting a kettle on the stove.
Anne was glad she agreed to come to Gilbert's house as Green Gables was much further away, but she was still upset about her argument with Gilbert earlier.
Moments later, they were both sitting at the kitchen table with blankets wrapped around them, drinking tea. Anne started straight ahead and didn't say anything as she sipped her tea.
Bash raised an eyebrow at Gilbert. Anne was never quiet, so he assumed it had to be something that happened between the two of them.
The rain was letting up outside. "I'll be on my way. Marilla will be worried about me." Anne said standing up quickly and unwrapping the blanket from around her shoulders.
"I'll go with you." Gilbert said also standing.
"No," Anne said. "You don't have to. I'll be fine."
With that, she grabbed her things and left the house.
"Boy, you must have really messed up with whatever you did to make her that upset." Bash said as soon as the door closed behind Anne.
Gilbert scowled and without saying anything, followed Anne out of the house.
"Anne!" He called. "Wait!"
Anne did not wait and continued her way down the path, walking faster than before.
"I'm sorry about earlier."
That got Anne to stop.
"What for?" Anne took a deep breath. "You were right we need take time with this article."
"I know it's an important article and I promise that we'll publish it soon." Gilbert said.
"Thank you." Anne said, smiling slightly.
For now, it seemed, the two had made up.
