Takes place in between s2 and S3
"THEY'RE impossible!" Cole said throwing up his hands. Aunt Jo was throwing another party, this one in the summer and both Anne and Gilbert had been invited.
"I don't see how they don't see how one looks at the other." Diana said.
"For being very smart people they're not very smart about each other."
Bash walked up to the pair. Bash had been Gilbert's plus one and like Cole and Diana, he was very aware of the tension between Gilbert and Anne.
"I don't understand how they can be so smart, yet so stupid at the same time." He said gazing in the direction the other two were looking.
Anne and Gilbert were on the other side of the ballroom talking to Aunt Jo, Anne was passionately talking about something and Gilbert was looking at her like she was the only thing keeping him breathing.
"I might have an idea." Cole said. He left Bash and Diana to wonder and went over to Aunt Jo. He managed to pull her away from Anne, who kept talking, but this time to Gilbert.
Cole whispered something in her ear, and she smiled and nodded. A few moments went by, and then Aunt Jo clapped her hands.
"Everybody, Cole here has had a marvelous idea! The next dance will be ladies choice."
There was a murmuring around the ballroom and various ladies asked people to dance with them. Anne quickly looked around oblivious to Gilbert, who was clearly staring at her. Diana saw Anne spot Cole and quickly before Anne could ask him, Diana was across the ballroom, tugging Cole out into the dance floor.
Aunt Jo, who also obviously saw what was between Anne and Gilbert, rushed over and grabbed Bash's arm.
With no one left to choose from, Anne turned to Gilbert.
"Would you dance with me?" She asked, extending her hand.
Gilbert quickly accepted her hand and the two started a waltz around the dance floor. They danced around for a few moments, talking between themselves. Then the song ended.
But surprisingly, the two did not break apart. Anne and Gilbert continued to dance. Then they danced to another song, and then another.
Later, after the party had concluded, Anne and Diana sat brushing their hair in the room they were staying in for the night.
"You and Gilbert looked awfully close tonight. You're both very good dancers." Diana said.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." Anne said.
"And to think, if Cole hadn't suggested that Lady's choice dance, the two of you never would've danced in the first place."
Anne paused; a realization dawning on her.
"Diana Barry, did you and Cole plan so that I would ask Gilbert to dance?!"
Diana shrugged. "It was a simple opportunity."
