Chapter 5
RECAP:
I saw a stampede of girls rushing towards us. "Let's go!" I grabbed her hand and pulled her alongside me as we ran out of the school.
"Where are we going?" she asked.
"Anywhere from here...no wait. I know the perfect place! It's a diner that's only a few minutes away from here."
Alex smiled softly, "Okay, I'm hungry anyways."
Alex's P.O.V.
It was a pretty quiet diner. Luke explained to me that it was probably because everyone was at the new sushi place across from the school. I liked the peacefulness. It was calming and a big change from the school where there always seemed to be something or someone moving. From the whispers of scratching pencils on papers to teachers yelling at their students for not paying attention or chewing gum. Here, it was just the quiet clinking of just a few plates and the smell of yummy burgers and fries. No stinky socks here!
We sat down and Luke asked, "What would you like to order?"
"Umm, what do you suggest?" I didn't bother faking to read the menu. I wonder how long I could keep up this charade of being able to see.
"Fish and chips with tartar sauce."
"Yum, sounds good, can I have some Iced Tea with it?"
"Sure," Luke beckoned the waitress over. She hastily pulled out her notepad.
"What would you two like?" she asked.
"Two Fish and Chips, one coke and one ice tea please." Luke said.
"Okay, I'll be bringing your drinks soon," she said, scribbling on her notepad. The waitress left, and now I felt an awkward silence.
"So, how do you like it here?" Luke asked.
I wasn't so sure what to say. It was great, the new people, places and events really distracted me from the fact that Christmas was coming.
Oh crap.
Christmas was only a few days away. ( ) days to be exact.
I felt a weight settle in my stomach and I didn't feel much like eating.
"Earth to Alex! Earth to Alex! You still there?"
I snapped out of my daze and replied, "Oh yeah, everything's just great. It was nice meeting you."
Luke could feel that something wasn't right. "Really now Alexis? What's wrong?"
"Really it's nothing-"Before I could finish explaining, I was cut off by the loud, obnoxious laughing of a trio of girls.
"Brittany. Ashley. Shawna..." Luke said in a monotone voice.
"Lukey, how are you boy?" the girl's nasal voice made me cringe slightly.
A heinous cackle and a burst of giggles followed. "Who is that gaall, you're wiiithh," the second voice slurred.
I'd guess they were drunk.
"Go away," Luke said in a firm, yet soft voice.
"Now, now, you shouldn't act like this to the head cheerleaders. Someone might see you..." the third voice sneered.
