RECAP:

Luke walked in and I felt Lily scoot over.

"Hey, let's go?" Luke asked.

"Yup, Lily you can come! The nurse said we can go out with a couple of the other children to the local winter fair."

"Yaay! My first fair!" I hear Lily squeal, and it warmed my heart to know that she was happy.

Luke kissed me on the lips which made me feel tingly all over.

"Let's go." I grinned and climbed out of my bed. I pulled on the hospital's marshmallow coat and slipped on the boots they gave me.

This was the start of a new era.

I could feel it.

Maybe my life was changing for the better.

Chapter XII pt II - Secrets unearthed.

Alex's POV

I heard the playful giggles of the children and the shushing of nurses as we all gathered in what I could guess was the lobby. Lily was holding tight to my left arm, while Luke had his hand in my right hand. I felt a pang of happiness and I held back the tears that were about to fall from joy if I didn't control my emotions.

It must have been a great sight for the children and for the people walking by.

The children who were mostly stuck in the hospital because they were too sick to stay at home could finally go outside and enjoy a bit of their winter. They wouldn't have to just stare out the window and look down enviously at the other kids who were playing. For once, these kids could act like nothing was wrong. I felt a snowball hit my back and I laughed. Too bad I couldn't see that person, if I could I would have had my payback and hit them back. They were lucky.

The people walking by must have been amazed by what they saw.

We hadn't even reached the Winter Fair yet but the kids were already enjoying themselves.

A group of the happiest kids in the world were jumping around, throwing snow in the air. I guess wearing their hospital clothes under the puffy white jackets and boots that didn't fit that right didn't seem to faze them at all.

I heard Lily shriek in joy and I heard Christmas music and happy music start to play in the distance.

"WE'RE HERE ALEX! WE'RE HERE!" Lily bounded off to play with the other kids.

I heard Luke chuckle beside me and I felt him squeeze my hand gently. "It's cute how she really looks up to you," his warm voice was like honey to me.

We walked around the lively fair, the kids still running around, having the nurses calling them to come back.

"There's something I need to ask you." We both said at the same time.

I sucked in a breath and said, "You go first."

Luke seemed to ponder for a few minutes before speaking, "Alex, why are you not honest with me?"

"What in the world are you talking about?" I asked.

"You only missed out on one thing. You're blind."

I never saw this coming. I bit my lip and cracked a joke, "That obvious that I'm a blind bat, eh?"
