~Clairvoyance {to see is not always to believe}

I was sleeping, snug as a bug in my bed. Nothing could interrupt this blissful moment. I smiled against my pillow as I thought of Luke and his soft, sweet kisses that made my heart flutter with anticipation.

I heard my bedroom door creak open . Pat, pat, little feet were running on my wooden floor.

Suddenly, a small warm weight was thrown on top of me. "Ooof!" I let out a startled cry.

"Lexie! Lexxiiieee! You have to get up!" Lauren shook me like crazy but I refused to budge just yet.

"What do you want?" the sound came out a bit muffled because my head was now submerged in my pillow and Lauren was still sitting a top of me.

"We're opening presents! Opening presents!" Lauren chorused.

"Why? Your birthday isn't until May?" I had no clue what she was talking about.

"It's Christmas!! Wheeee!" Lauren jumped off of me and onto the floor, half-dragging me out of the bed. "And it's your birthdaaayy!"

"HAPPY BIIRTHDAY TO YOOOUUU. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUU. HAPPPPYY BIRTHDAY DEAARR LEEXXXIIEE. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUU!"

Christmas.

My birthday.

Dad's death.

I felt my stomach revulse at the thought.

Lauren left me half out of my bed and started shouting out as she ran down the stairs, "IT'S CHRISTMAS! YAAY!"

Snapping out of my train of thought, I got up and gathered all my blankets and pillows, placing them onto my bed.

I got dressed and headed downstairs, the smell of bacon and pancakes made my mouth water and my stomach growl in delight.

"Hey sweetie, how are you?" My mom called out happily to me as I heard her flip the bacon.

"Yeah, like you don't know." I mumbled to myself so that she couldn't hear me.

I could hear Lauren's glee filled shrieks at she tore away at her many presents.

Sitting down, I helped myself toa few pieces of bacon and a pancake. Lauren came running up to me, "Lexie! Thanks for the present!" Sure, I hated Christmas, but I wasn't a heartless sister. I had gotten her a few books and teddy bear that said "Lauren" on it.

Lauren ran away and then came back again.

"Lexie! Lexie!" Lauren cried out in delight,

"What is it?" I tried to sound interested.

"I think this one is for you! It says "A-lex." Lauren sounded out the words like mom had taught her to.

"Are you sure Lauren?" Ha, I laughed inside my head. What a sick joke. Who had given this to me? Lauren placed the present on my lap. "My name isn't Alex. Mommy's name isn't Alex."

I was being so selfish and selfabsorbed. It was no big deal that I was getting a present...If it was not a big deal... then why were my hands getting all clammy and my heart beating like crazy?

"Mom, did you get me this?" I asked, my hands shaking slightly.

"No sweetie, I didn't....?" I heard a tinge of regret in my mom's voice. She had "forgotten" that it was my birthday. I didn't really care, she hadn't ever bothered. All the little girls talked about getting bouncy castles and lots of cake for their birthdays, boys talked about cars for their birthdays.  Both of the kids talked about Christmas and what they wanted and after they'd boast about what they got.
