As the morning broke over the ever foreboding horizon, Edward swallowed deeply, another ice cold tear runs down his right cheek.
They took his reason for living in this spiral called life, his Bella.
They had all moved out of Forks soon after The Voltary revolt as Renesmee was growing so fast people began to notice and moved to a small town called Grangefield, so they could remain unknown. Carlisle got a job at a medical centre there soon after arriving.
School seemed pointless now as it wouldn't be believable having a daughter as old as Renesmee looked, so they all started up a boat hire company which brought in the money coming in to help Carlisle.
Renesmee grew up swiftly and moved in with Jacob after his father died. They lived close as she wanted to be there for her father in his grief. Jacob remained in his Pack and was hoping soon to become Alfa. The treaty between the pack and the Cullens now become null and void as all knew they worked well together in keeping the newborns at bay. Too late for Bella though it seemed.
That day nearly a 6 human years ago now was still clear in his mind running over and over. She got cornered one night on a hunt, Edward did all he could but they were just too fast for him...it seems some knew ways of blocking themselves in Alice's visions and took them all by surprise.
He had failed her...he failed in protecting her from harm.
"Dad?" Renesmee tapped his shoulder. Swiftly wiping his tears he turned and greeted his daughter with a false smile.
"Hey Beautiful! What you doing here?"
"Ah you know..I was just passing" she tenderly wrapped her arms around her fathers waist and pulled him into a hug.
"Jacob with you?" He held her close. No one would harm her...ever.
"Yeah..he's back at the house with Grandma" pulling back just enough she looked up into Edwards eyes feeling his pain once again. "Dad..they said you've been gone all day. I came to check you were ok?"
"I'm ok Beautiful...I..." He began
"I know...we all miss her too...... And no Dad you have to stop blaming yourself! It wasn't your fault!"
"I failed her..it was my job to keep her safe...MY JOB" turning away to the face the red sky he felt the rage inside him build again.
"They won't get away with it Dad. Jacob has news that will help us..come home Dad...please?" She looked painfully at his back.
"6 years is long enough!" He said turning back to her and he takes her outstretched hand.
"Hey bloodsucker!" Greeted Jacob.
"Jacob." Edward nodded politely.
"We came across newborns south of the forest during the evening. They were fast but we managed to follow the scent to an old school building by the river. I think it's worth a look."
"Let's GO!" Edwards eagerness stopped in its tracks by Carlisle.
"Edward! Wait! We need to talk this out. They are strong remember."
"I want to do this now!" Words escaped with a growl as the anger shone through his Jet black eyes.
Esme laid a tender hand on her Edwards arm. "Not in the light of day...we hunt tonight.." turning to Jacob she continued "check this place out from a distance. "we go at midnight."
"Leah will stay with Renesmee!" Jacob knew she would be safe with Leah.
Renesmee now gave up trying to let her come on hunts, 1, it upset her father with worry and 2, Jacob was far to possessive to allow it. With a nod she clung to Jacobs arm, knowing just how dangerous this could be.
