'CLOSED FOR CHRISTMAS' Said the sign upon the boat house door. The festivities could begin.
Driving back from their last shift Edward and Mari were silent. It was strange how different things were, when you couldn't hear thoughts in people's minds. This is how it must have been back when they were mortal.
Edward had thought a lot about what Carlisle had confided in him and about how Happy Mari made him feel. He no longer cared if they'd ever have sex, but knew he was strong enough to pull away when he felt the urge was getting too strong. And Mari in turn understood how far she could push until he backed off. It was like an unsaid pact.
The future was still unclear, as of yet they knew not of any pill, contraption or medicine that could stop the unwanted creation of a immortal child. So were rested in the fact they may never make love. It had become unimportant now. They just wanted to be happy.
Suddenly scared by the silence, Mari reached to switch on the stereo in the car.
"Too quiet huh?" Edward grinned passing her a short glance before returning it to the road ahead.
"Hmmm." She confirmed.
A tune came on which made her smile...a band she knew he liked. A band she had gotten tickets for him as her Christmas gift. Right now she was thankful he couldn't read her mind...she liked surprising him.
He began to sing along, unaware she was watching him. She looked away and out her window, she couldn't wait to see his face tomorrow morn, when he opened that envelope.
He was rubbish at buying presents...I mean what do you get an immortal woman in her 20's, who had every book, every cd, every makeup product possible. So instead he did something different...he bought 24 little gifts and decided on every hour, regardless of what they were doing, he would present her one.
As they arrived home, the house smelt divine, that woody winter smell mixed with cinnamon and spices. They had all decorated the house Beautifully.
"Were home!" Edward called out.
"Hey...all locked up?" Esme smiled as she greeted them in the lounge. Carlisle was stoking the fire.
"Yep all secure...." Turning to Mari he said "just gonna get a drink..I'm starving...want one?"
"Um...no I'm fine thanks..I'm just gonna head up for a shower...washing that cruiser warmed me up way too much."
"Oh you shouldn't have done that hunny, that could've waited till new year." Esme said thankful
"Ah it's ok...they brought it back in hell of a mess...so had to really"
"I hope Edward helped you and not sat on his ARSE?!" Esme called out a little louder so Edward heard from the kitchen.
"Yes..I did!" He said rejoining them smirking.
"Yes, don't worry...I made sure he did..excuse me.." And she left for her shower.
"You really should do it Edward...." Esme smiled at him
"I know....I just....just" he couldn't find the words.
"Don't think...just do it! She makes you happy?"
"Course...." He sipped his nectar again
"Then do it Edward!" Carlisle smiled now too. "No ones judging you... Be happy!"
Tapping his glass thoughtfully,he had some serious thinking to do.
They all hunted as usual that night and even found some stag..stag blood was rich and full of energy. They drained 2 in the woods and brought a young one home to drain for their Christmas meal the next daylight. Renesmee and Jacob arrived to join in too.
Christmas Day broke over the horizon and they all cheered and popped party poppers to celebrate. Music blared out and furniture pushed back they danced and sang as the sun rose up.
"Happy Christmas Baby!" Edward said pulling Mari close and kissing her tenderly on her lips.
"Happy Christmas!" She said handing him an envelope she'd hidden in her pocket.
"Oh wow! Presents already....cool!" Taking from her hand he pulled off the ribbon. His eye lit up as he slid the tickets from the envelope. "Tickets to 'The Risers' ?????" He picked her up and twirled her around just as his wrist watch alarm went off.
"What...what's that?" Mari looked confused, where was he going?
"Thank you Baby!..." And he kissed her "...that is to remind me of your present." And he turned and fled the room. AWKWARD!
Returning with a grin he handed her a small bag. Opening it up she peered inside. It was a bottle of her favourite perfume. "Oh Edward! My favourite....thank you!"
"Plenty more where that came from?!" He winked. wrapping her arms around his neck she pulled him close now. "Thank you" she said and kissed him. "I love you" She whispered slightly shy.
He replied "I love you too" and they kissed. Deeply and meaningful.

"Ahem..." Carlisle interrupted them...he had a habit Of doing that.
Stopping the kiss the both looked sheepish.
"Can we have a word in the kitchen?" Esme said
Looking at each other Edward and Mari, looked puzzled...should they be worried?

"I locked up....I swear!" Edward held up his hands in defence.
"It's not to do with work Edward." Carlisle said softly.
Both him and Esme exchanged looks and smiled. Putting both Mari and Edward slightly at ease.
