The flames cracked as Edward threw on another piece of splintered lounger. His time in the garden alone let him think about what he was gonna do now, he knew he wanted Mari. But marriage?? It all seemed too soon. It seemed like only yesterday he stood watching Bella walk up that aisle. But his traditional values were so set in stone. Could he resist her for much longer or should he take the plunge? He just didn't know.
Watching Edward from her window, Mari's mind was asking the same questions. She didn't want to seem pushy, but she really needed to feel his skin Against hers..but it had to be when he was ready, and she wasn't so sure he was. Was her being there....her constant scent....confusing matters? Why had he been born in the traditional era? Modern lifestyles were so more relaxed. But his lifestyle made him ...him. The way he talked, the way he dressed smartly, the way he did unto others as he expected of hisself. Immortality wasn't so straight forward as she had been promised.
Standing back and staring into the burning flames Edwards mind floats back...over the years of meeting Bella in class..saying goodbye in the forest, telling her she would never see him again. His sorrow as he heard Jacob tell him Charlie was arranging a funeral and he was sure it was his Bella. His drive to reveal himself as an immortal, his urge to die. His anger as he felt Jacob kiss her mouth. A snapping sound brings him back to the present. Turning his head he sees her emerge from the trees..walking towards the flames.
"Don't do this Edward......you don't have to do this.....it lasted as it should have....you have Mari now.....Renesmee is my gift to you both....I will always be here.....but you have to let me die before you can live....be happy Edward." And she then disappeared amoung the yellow firey heat.
Mari had seen it...but felt no need to discuss it. These were decisions only Edward could make, and in his own time. But what became more apparent was she was only confusing him more by being there. He needed more time. She needed to go.
As Edward turned to see her in her window, she placed a hand upon the glass and let a tear trickle down her face. A lone tear mirrored hers on Edwards too. His mind clouded, he didn't hear her thoughts....if he had, he'd have stopped her packing a case and leaving that night.
As the flames died he went inside, pausing outside her door, about to knock...when he suddenly felt nothing...he couldn't hear her. Like her mind was switched off. Deciding against interrupting her peace. He lowered his fist and walked slowly to his room, not knowing on the other side of her door laid a note .... Mari had gone.
