"How's your arm?" I asked Colton.

"Uh it hurts a little but I'm okay."

I glanced at his pink cast which had already been signed by a ton of people. It's crazy how fast Colton got popular after his 'makeover'. I also glanced at his chest where the brace on his ribs was outlined through his tight black t-shirt.

"Three ribs and a broken arm. How do you manage?" I asked shaking my head jokingly.

"I use you," Colton grinned as he nodded to his extremely heavy book bag that was hanging on my shoulder. Apparently Colton studies every subject every night.

I giggled at his comment as we walked out of the school building towards the direction of my car.

Suddenly a bright pink flyer caught my eye on the door. I immediately swung around and glanced back at the door.

"What's up?" Colton asked walking back to the door.

I grinned at him and pointed at the flyer. I watched as the expressions played across his face as he read the flyer.

Suddenly his eyes went from confused to utter surprise as he realized what I was thinking.

"No. No, no, no, no. No" Colton said shaking his head vigorously.

"Oh come on it's perfect! The best first date!"

"I refuse," he folded his arms across his chest and kept his face firm.

I gave a little pout and widened my eyes a little. "If you ask Layla to go she will most definitely say yes. I've seen the way she looks at you. She fancies you."

Colton's expression faltered but he suddenly turned back into the rock. "Not happening."

"Colton," I said getting firm. "You can't ignore this. You're going to have to ask her out at some time and this is the best way. You can do it."

He glanced back at the flyer that advertised our Winter Dance. It was less than a month away and people were already preparing for this dance and asking others to go with them. Layla had already been asked twice and it was now or never for Colton.

He sighed and dropped his arms. "Are you sure this will work?"

"Absolutely positive," I said feeling hopeful.

"Fine," Colton sighed reluctantly. Gosh he was so easy to convince.

"Yay!" I ran to hug Colton and he yelped in pain.

"Oh shit! I'm so sorry!" I said pulling away immediately. I patted his ribs and accidentally touched part of his abs in the process. I took all my effort to stop feeling his muscles.

"It's ok," he said grimacing a little. At least he didn't realize that my hand lingered a little longer than it should have on his abdomen.

"So how had I not heard about this dance anyways?" he asked after he recovered and we began walking again.

"You've been out of school for two weeks and got back yesterday. Don't act so surprised." We reached my car and I threw our stuff in the back as he climbed on the passenger side.

"Yeah but you never mentioned it over those two weeks. You visited me everyday."

"Technically I visited you ever other day and we were busy working on our project the whole time." I buckled up and drove out of the school parking lot.

"True," he said.

We had gotten very far on our project and were almost done. The project was due the Thursday before the dance and then we had Christmas break the next few weeks. It was all coming so fast. It feels like just yesterday Colton and I were bickering over many pointless things. Oh wait it was yesterday.

We made it to my house and I parked in my usual spot in the garage. I jumped out of the car with plenty of bounce in my step. Colton slightly dragged his feet as we entered my house.

"Alright let's head to the study," I said grabbing his hand and pulling him to make him go faster. "We have lot's of work to do."

"Not so fast," a voice chimed from the kitchen.

I groaned internally as I turned to my mother. I put on my fake smile and my mom knew it to.

"How was your day?" she asked.

"Wonderful," I said with slight sarcasm.

"You know I was wondering if you would like to go shopping later-"

"Sorry mom Colton and I have a lot of homework to do so I can't go," I interrupted. There was no way I was going shopping with that evil she-devil when all she was going to do is judge me. It's the only thing she does.

I kept my face blank as I watched her face fall and nod her head. She turned back to the kitchen and started cutting orange slices.

Colton eyed me suspiciously as I started dragging him again. I ignored him and Colton didn't ask me about it either. He had sort of gotten used to my distorted relationship with my mother even though he was still baffled that someone could have such a relationship. Especially with their mother.

We walked into the study/library and I sunk into my favorite chair while Colton sat at the desk.

"So what homework should we work on first?" he asked.

"Homework? Who said anything about homework?" I smiled menacingly as Colton recognized my lie.

Suddenly he let out a huge groan just as I said, "We have a date to plan."
