A/N sorry I have been gone for so long! my computer broke a couple weeks ago and is still being repaired. I ended up writing this on my mom's computer which is a total nightmare. This chapter is a bit short but I'm hoping to upload again soon. I love you all!
"Why are we here, Malakai?" Xavier huffed out. He looked to Malakai with an annoyed expression, begging for a reasonable explanation.
"Call me Kai." He replied.
"Okay, Kai. You still haven't answered my question. Why are we here?" The alpha was separated from his mate for the first time since he got her back. Xavier had been by Lyla's side since the moment he had her back in his arms, but now Kai has messed that all up.
"We are here because I want to get Diana a ring. Why else would I bring you to this fancy jewelry store specializing in rings?" Kai said his words as if the situation they were in was completely obvious to the brooding alpha.
"Wait...like an engagement ring?" Xavier asked with a sudden interest in what Kai was planning. Kai nodded his head and smiled. "Why? You know werewolves don't usually get married since our bond is formed when we mark each other."
"I know, I just...seeing you and Lyla during the Luna ceremony inspired me to get her ring, propose, and have a cheesy wedding that I know she'd tell me she hates, but secretly loves." Kai couldn't contain the smile that overtook his face at the thought of him and Diana dancing to YMCA with all their friends and fami- wait...all of their family is dead now. "My dad won't be there nor my mom or Diana's parents. We have no family left." Kai whispered to himself, but Xavier's heightened hearing picked up every word.
Xavier placed a hand on Kai's shoulder comfortingly, "Hey...me and Lyla are your family now, okay? So is the rest of the pack. We are your family now and forever. Blood doesn't decide who your family is. You do." Xavier's voice was so strong and commanding, no wonder he's an alpha.
Kai took a moment to let Xavier's words sink in. He realized that the alpha was completely right. His biological family is amongst the angels but he gets to build a new family with Diana and form new bonds with their pack members, "Blood of the covenant is thicker than water of the womb." Kai stated.
"Yeah whatever you just said, weirdo. Now can we please get on with this? Why am I even here? I know nothing about jewelry." Xavier complained.
"I don't doubt that you know nothing about jewelry, neither do I, but you've known Diana longer and she's like your sister, so I wanted to get your help in picking the right one." Xavier smirked.
"Alright, let's get picking!" The alpha started moving up the aisles of glass cases then came to the realization, "Kai, you never asked me for my blessing to marry D."
"Do I really need your blessing? We're mates, wolfie and I are meant to be. Plus, asking for her hand in marriage from someone other than her seems a bit archaic and sexist."
"Did you just call her wolfie?" Kai nodded his head, "You're right. And please don't tell her I mentioned the blessing thing because she'll kick my ass." Malakai and Xavier laughed together even though they had no doubt Diana would successfully kick Xavier's ass. There was a silent agreement among them that today would stay between them and this was the start of an interesting friendship.
