Tam woke up to a pounding on his door. He drearily blinked his eyes and sat up.

"Tammy! Get up!" He groaned in response, flipping over and covering his ears.

"Go away Linh!"

The girl burst through the door, making her way over to Tam's bed. She flopped on top of him, sighing loudly as he grunted from the impact.

He tried to roll over, attempting to get his sister to move. When he realized his efforts were futile he settled down, his breathing becoming shallow from the force of her weight.

"But Taaaaammmmm," Linh whined, pouting. "It's our birthday. And Sophie said she wanted us to come to Everglen."

He immediately shot up with a sudden burst of strength, making Linh to fall off the bed with a loud thud.

"Ow!" Tam ignored her, his mind racing. It was their 16th birthday. He got up out of bed, briefly apologizing to Linh before racing to the bathroom to take a shower.

Tam usually hated his birthday, considering the whole ordeal with his parents. Twins were commonly looked down upon in the lost cities, so his parents would pretend Linh and him weren't twins.

The thing was, he was a sucker for soulmates, despite what some might think. Tam loved the idea of having someone who was meant to be with him. Someone who would always be there and love him unconditionally.

He would never admit it, but he was scared of being alone. He always had Linh, but one day she would find someone she loved, and he didn't want her to feel like she had to always be there for him.

So the idea of having someone he was meant to be with made him ecstatic.

He quickly got dressed, pulling on a pair of black trousers and a simple dark blue tunic. He raced down the stairs, tripping over his own feet and landing face first at the bottom of the steps.

Linh happened to walk in at that moment, seeing Tam in all his clumsy glory. She practically doubled over in laughter, even more so when he stood up hastily.

He grabbed her arm and went outside, holding up the crystal while shushing her. Outside the gates of Everglen stood Fitz and Sophie, waiting for them.

Sophie's eyes seemed to be trained on Linh. The raven haired girl was wearing a simple lilac dress that went down to her knees. The edges of the dress had a lace embroidery. To say she looked beautiful would be an understatement.

Sophie wrapped them both in a tight hug, making Tam squirm uncomfortably. Linh smacked him, telling him to stop being rude. He just rolled his eyes and shoved his hands in his pockets.

Sophie giggled and led them inside the gates and around to the backyard. Tam's eyes widened upon seeing everything that was set up.

All of their friends stood around tables filled with delicious treats and drinks. A banner was hung between two trees with the words 'Happy Birthday' plastered in big rainbow letters. Streamers and balloons littered the yard. Everything looked so... colorful.
