A week had already flown by and Finnick had managed to get by unscathed, he constantly stayed on the move making sure he was alone at all times.Callissa hadn't been so lucky and a Tribute snuck up behind her, taking her by surprise she slashed down her arm causing a large cut. It was painful to watch and I thought that was it for her but she managed to swing around and stab District 5's boy.
He fell to the floor where she left him, not wanting to finish him off. He lay for a couple of hours in tremendous pain until he succumbed to his injuries and bled to death. The capital enjoyed watching that as I wandered what went on in their sick minds to enjoy a young boy crying out for his family as he died.
To a point I wish Callissa had just killed him to put him out of his misery, her weakness caused the boy unnecessary pain. Though I understand why she had to leave him.
Finnick was rapidly losing energy as he hadn't had anything to drink or eat, there was plenty of fish that he knew weren't poisonous but he didn't have the correct equipment to hunt for them. He appeared back on the camera as a flock of gifts appeared over his head. A sigh of relief passed through his and my own lips as the Capitol poured their love over him.
He had received a Trident - his weapon of choice.
He was definitely the most deadly Tribute in that arena now which installed a great faith in me that it would be him getting out alive. I'm pretty sure that Trident is the most expensive gift to ever be given to a Tribute, they really must adore him.Not only did they send him the weapon he also received various food items;
bread, fruit, tinned goods and a few bottles of water. He was living the Games in luxury now, tucking straight into one of the bread rolls and storing the rest of his supplies in his bag.We watched as a Tribute approached his oblivious self, it was quite an agile Tribute as well. She climbed up on the trees and swung herself around each one until she was above Finnick's head.
My breath hitched in my throat as I watched the scene before me unfold. Wielding a bow and arrow she got in the position to shoot right at his head, luckily she clumsily misplaced her foot slipping down the bark and making a shuffling noise as she regained her balance. Finnick caught on to the girls movements and then quickly regained his senses.
District 12's girl took this opportunity as her own and shot an arrow into his thigh, welping in pain Finnick fell to the floor for a brief second.Adrenaline clearly kicked in as he forced himself back up and threw a net he'd made out of vines up at the tree, catching the girl he pulled her down to the ground with a thud. Once she was captured he thrust the Trident into her stomach, an instant kill. It was a hard watch for people with a conscience, but it seemed everyone in the room, aside from myself, was loving the show.
Anxiety set into me as I recalled what had happened, it was way too close. If that girl hadn't of slipped Finnick would've been killed. It was that easy. Both Callissa and Finnick had danced with death now, they were no longer careless as they cautiously went about, checking over their shoulders every second.
Both were injured pretty bad, huge gashes covering their bodies. Finnick had used a bit of rope he had gained from the rucksack to tie onto his leg to prevent any further blood loss. Whilst Callissa had made a makeshift bandage out of leaves and stuck them to her wound, cleaning it occasionally with water she'd found, clean and safe water may I add.
I was thankful they were both quick thinking and resourceful, Callissa's father had taught her well. I just didn't know what I'd do if it came down to the two of them, it would be torture to watch. I couldn't imagine how the families were feeling as they were forced to watch their children's life's be so cruelly taken from them.
The broadcast came to a close as the Games finished for the day, for us at least. It wasn't over for the Tributes, and it was never over for the Victor.
I knew that Finnick would easily have an ointment to help his wound settle down and heal sent to him from his fans. However Callissa hadn't received a single gift through the whole week, her stance at the Parade really had an impact on the sponsors and they were paying little attention to her, if any at all. She wouldn't make it past two nights if she had no medicine.
The next morning I put on the brightest clothes I could find in my bland wardrobe and the biggest smile I could force. I needed to try and convince the Capitol that Callissa was worth their money.
I went to a rather large gathering they had each morning to discuss and ponder over the events of the night before's Game and events. Even when it wasn't a special occasion the citizens still dressed ludicrously.
I gathered them around in a circle, they always listened to the Presidents daughter even if she was only a little girl. I thought it was rather silly, I could say jump or run and they'd follow my orders, you wouldn't see me obeying someone younger than me. 'Royalty' or not.
I listed all the reasons Callissa was great and how she deserved their sponsorship. I told them all the truths of the kind girl I'd met, I told them of her big heart and amazing energy. Although they only seemed interested when I brought back up how she killed that boy who attacked her, all they were interested in was who would put on a better show.
All I could do was hope I won them over enough with my compliments and wait until tonight to see if she received the help she needed that I had begged for.
