My breath hitched in my throat as the tunnel rapidly pushed me up to the surface. Coming to an abrupt stop in the middle of the arena, the cornucopia.

My head turned quickly trying to take in my surroundings before the countdown to death began. The Careers stood proudly on their stand, head held high and cocky smiles plastered on their young faces. Whilst the innocent tributes couldn't have been anymore opposite in their expressions. Cowering in their positions their heads swung low to the ground.

My eyes locked with Aidan's for a split second before he broke apart the contact, his pupils were filled with fear and he radiated nervous energy, an easy target for the careers so I hoped he would have some common sense and run as far away as soon as the games began.

Man made snow littered the floor, it was smooth and untouched but it wouldn't stay that way for long.

Ironic hey, Alia Snow in the games and they base the arena off of that environment. I cant guess that it's just a coincidence, the producers are probably thriving off of the attention this would attract.

The air was crisp and cold but I remained unaffected, the weather was the least of my worries for the next week. As the countdown decreased it felt like my heart beat was in synchronisation with the huge audible thuds. As it fell into single numbers everyone got into a ready position, most crouching down and ready to sprint to the weapons and bags that were scattered around the centre.

A huge siren sounded indicating that hell had begun. My legs instinctively took off into the opposite direction of the middle, remembering all the advice that Finnick and Haymitch had shared.

Snow crunched beneath my boots and the freezing air filled my lungs making it harder to take deep breaths. My ears were wide awake waiting to hear the slightest of sounds. As I sprinted away from the cornucopia I snagged a random bag that came across my path hoping that something useful would be inside.

It's almost like time goes slower in the arena, it felt like I had been running for hours until I finally came to a stop at a quiet spot which I assumed was isolated away from all other tributes. My legs burnt and ached tiresomely but adrenaline seemed to be seeping through my veins as I ignored the pain.

My mind seemed blank, no thoughts crossed through my empty brain. Trying to think of something was giving me a dull headache making me give up trying.

The only thing entering my mind is...

How on earth have I ended up here?
