I woke up the following morning strangely hot. But then I remembered, I was wearing Felix’s hoodie. It smelled of roasted wood and dried blood, ew! I wanted to get it off so badly, but it was so silky and cozy. I found myself back in my waterbed with a blanket over my body...Did Felix carry me all the way back to my bed? I turned my head expecting to find Peter, but instead I found a neatly done bed. “Peter?” I worriedly asked. I once again struggled to get out of bed, but failed.
Just then, Peter’s head popped through the light curtain door. “Good Morning Miss Karnosh, I made breakfast!” With that, Peter came in with a tray of assorted foods. I sat up straight in bed and greeted Peter with a smile. “Peter, you’re too kind. Thanks!” I grabbed the tray from him and placed it on my lap. “Here, I’ll be right back. I just have to check on the boys,” Peter said as he casually walked out of the room. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, every bite was savored.
After a few minutes, Peter came back. “Are you done?” he asked as he looked at my now empty tray. I nodded and placed it on a nearby bed side table. I tried to get out of bed, but I just fell back down. To be honest, this bed was getting really annoying and now I deeply loathed it with a passion. “Need some help?” Peter laughed. I replied by rolling my eyes and raising my hands in the air. I wrapped my arms around Peter’s neck and he carried me out of the bed bridal-style. However, as he placed me on the ground, he noticed Felix’s hoodie. “Is this Felix’s hoodie?”
Suddenly, I froze in place. “Uh, maybe?” He gave me a puzzled look, “Why do you have it? Felix doesn’t just offer his cloak.” Really? That’s what he did last night… I looked down at Peter’s feet, trying to find words to say. “Well, I was just really cold and I didn’t have anything…” Before I could finish, Peter grabbed my chin and gently raised it so that our eyes met. “Hey, it’s ok,” Peter assured. “Let’s just go, the boys are waiting for us anyway. I’m calling a meeting.”
Peter, grabbed my soft hand and guided me out of the room. As we made our way into the main room, the boys were chatting amongst themselves. Some boys were laughing while other boys were arguing, and then there was Felix. Felix just stood there with his arms crossed, just silently waiting. There was also a podium in front of the mesh of boys, probably where Peter will be. Peter grabbed a nearby chair and fixed it right next to the podium, probably where I’ll be.
I sat down and waited for the meeting to begin. “SHUT IT!” Peter yelled from the podium, his voice bouncing off the walls. Just then, the boys stopped talking and the room grew incredibly silent. “Now, I would like to start our meeting…” Peter said before he was cut off by Felix. “Wait, we always have meetings with Tink. We can’t have one without her. “Felix is right. Where is Tink anyway?” one of the boys asked. The room was filled with confusion about this “Tink” person. Were they talking about Tinker Bell? Where is she anyway?
However, I glanced at Peter and he looked pretty annoyed. “STOP!” Peter screamed. He looked down at the podium, and then at me. I could see that there was sorrow in his eyes. “Tink...Tink lost her wings.” The crowd of boys gasped in shock. All of a sudden, there was a thick cloud of tension in the room. It was like every became marionettes, motionless but full of agony. I looked into the crowd and saw Felix, his melancholy face made it look like he was about to cry.
“Tink, was a good fairy. Yet, she had her flaws and she ran away,” Peter spoke. “But, I think she’s doing ok. However, I called for a meeting to discuss another manner, someone has stolen my trusty dagger!” With that, the boys gasped once again, including me. I must’ve forgotten to put Peter’s knife back. “You all know I don’t like it when people take things from me without asking, especially that dagger,” Peter claimed. “If you have my dagger, turn yourself in and suffer the consequence, or else.” The room was dead silent, nobody moved. I froze up, I didn’t know how to react and I was too late. “No one huh? Well, if i find out anyone of you stole it, I’m going to kill you, chop you up into little pieces, and feed you to tick-tock!” Peter indignantly furiously yelled as he slammed his fists on the podium.
My eyes grew and my mouth made an ‘O’ shape. Was he serious? What am I going to do? “Well, that concludes our meeting, c’mon Stephanie” Peter casually said as he grabbed my hand. As we walked out of the room, I caught Felix staring at me. He probably thought I was a coward… When we got to our bedroom, I didn’t know what to do, I just sat down hugging my knees. “Tough crowd...Stephanie, are you okay? You’re really pale,” Peter worriedly asked as he caressed my cheek. I grabbed his hand and took it off my face,”No, I’m fine. I just need some fresh air.”
Peter nodded and I was gone, I rushed out of the room, up the ladder, and out of the hideout. Once I got outside, I leaned against the tree trying to catch my breath. Maybe I just need to give Peter his knife and everything will be okay? I checked my pockets for the knife but...IT WASN’T THERE! What am I going to do now?! I can’t tell Peter I lost one of his most prized possessions! He’s going to kill me! I started nervously pacing back and forth. “Okay, think Stephanie. If the knife isn’t in your pocket, where else could it be?” I thought out loud.
All of a sudden, Felix popped out of nowhere and pushed me against the tree with his bulky hands on my fragile arms. “You didn’t return the dagger?!” He roared. I looked into his gray eyes with fright, “Felix, I was going to. It’s just...I lost it.” Then, he let me go, I was free. “Look, I’m sorry that I didn’t return it, I’m sorry that I lost it, and I’m sorry that we’re in this mess. I didn’t mean for any of this to happen,” I wistfully said. “I didn’t either. It’s just, I've known Peter for a very long time and I haven’t seen him that serious. I don’t think he’ll just let you off the hook. Also, If he found out that I knew you had the dagger, he would kill me too,” Felix informed.
I looked down and didn’t say anything for awhile. “Felix, I’m sorry,” I said teary-eyed. It’s like I put a weight on Felix’s shoulder, he didn’t deserve any of this. All of a sudden, Felix hugged me. It was soothing and quite nice! “Steph, it’s ok. We’ll get through this. Here, let’s not tell him. He won’t know unless someone tells him,” Felix reassured. He lightly patted my back and we separated. Just then, I remembered Felix’s cloak around my neck, “Uh, you can have your hoodie back, I’m not cold anymore.”
“You should keep it, it looks way better on you,” Felix replied as he grinned. I smiled back and flipped the hoodie over my head. However, I was still incredulous and my smile disappeared, “What if he finds out though, what will we do then?” Felix hesitated, but then he held my hand. Felix’s hand was very cold, undead-like. “He’ll eventually find out, but for now, let’s hope for the best and prepare for the worst.”
